Re: Buddhism and Islam in Asia: A Long and Complicated History

I think you're mostly right about Muslims DooDoot, but I should say Muslims were more intolerant of idolaters than they were Jews and Christians which at the time at least did not practice idolatry. That being said how did India end up 80% idolatrous Hindus if Muslims had taken over and exterminated...

Re: Will certain Buddhists on DW please stop disparaging other faiths

For instance female genital mutilation is not Islamic, it is cultural, it originated in Africa and is still principally an African phenomenon, both Islamic and Christian communities in Africa practice female genital mutilation, it almost unheard of in most middle Eastern countries, although I have h...

Re: Will certain Buddhists on DW please stop disparaging other faiths

Asokan Edicts Beloved-of-the-Gods, King Piyadasi, honors both ascetics and the householders of all religions, and he honors them with gifts and honors of various kinds. But Beloved-of-the-Gods, King Piyadasi, does not value gifts and honors as much as he values this -- that there should be growth i...

Re: Will certain Buddhists on DW please stop disparaging other faiths

When reading some of these posts it becomes clear some of these people have never had any Muslim friends, and when you hear there opinions, it becomes clear why they don't have any Muslim friends. It is a position of weakness in one's faith to criticize other religions, if you are secure in your bel...

I'm damn well certain the UK has not allowed any known ISIS fighters to return to the UK, obviously they're talking about unknown ISIS fighters probably being among people returning to the UK. Robert Spencer is a known hatemonger, obviously he deserves to be banned, just like any real ISIS fighters ...

There are 16,000 fewer guns on the streets of Queensland after the end of a three-month national firearm amnesty. The number of unregistered weapons handed into police more than doubled in the last month of the amnesty, the first to be held across the country since gun laws were overhauled after th...

Re: deadliest mass shooting in the U.S.

Gun control has been a big success in Australia, but its unclear what might happen if Americans were ordered to turn in their assault rifles and illegal guns, my guess is criminals would not want to give them up, and gun fanatics would be ready to die to keep their mass killing machines, its a very ...

Re: sit and forget: the missing link to greater heights

Explain the Tao in simple English terms, what a laugh, there's nothing simple about explaining the Tao!! It looks as if there's two of us who don't seem to understand what the Tao is, then. :) I understand what the Tao is, I just don't fancy trying to put it into simple terms, because its just not ...

Re: sit and forget: the missing link to greater heights

You don't seem to understand what the Tao is, the closest thing to the Tao in Buddhism would be the Eternal Dhamma or Dhammakaya, you'd hardly say that about the Dhamma, would you?? I might, depending on what you mean by Tao and Dhammakaya. Explain them in simple English terms, and I'll decide. Exp...

Re: "Why secular Buddhism is Not True"

Hi Guys, I don't have much to say on this topic in general at the current time but I thought I'd share an essay by Bhikkhu Bodhi on the Kalama Sutta that I found interesting and should help clarify how it's commonly (mis)understood by many/most people and what it really means. It should have some r...
