["Now Hiring"] You post this meme in all seriousness? Some seriousness, certainly. Historically, a primary source of cheap unskilled and semi-skilled labour has been a pool of non-white not-quite-citizens. (I will let you cast your mind over US history for the succession of groups filling the role ...

Re: Executive Action of Deportations

(tangentially on/off-topic) I once worked in a small company in SF owned by a guy who's father immigrated here back then, had been a high-ranking minister in the Shah's regime. He was quite cultured -- practiced, very seriously, Zoroastrian religion. Yes. I worked in a shop with Parvīz, a co-worker...

Re: Executive Action of Deportations

Here's a model for a successful business, you fire all your hardworking immigrant labourers, hire white trash with drug and alcohol problems who haven't held a job in years. And see if your productivity improves. The imagine doing that on a country wide basis, one big giant recipe for disaster and ...

Re: Executive Action of Deportations

Mexico, and other countries, have many ways to create a prolonged crisis for the Trump Admin if they choose to. And that is the plan it seems. Mexicans Vow to Fight Trump by Jamming U.S. Courts Which may not give the results they want. Going to court to argue their right to violate immigration laws...

The cost of hostility: Why the U.S. should treat Mexico as a vital partner Salon is living in a fantasy. Re: Executive Action of Deportations

Is everyone in her position being deported or just her? If not everyone then why her? I wondered this too. After this you can be sure that no known illegal is going to their check-in with ICE. But how many more like her are known by ICE? This is not a good first step on deportations, it runs agains...

I agree though, this does not start things off well. But then again, it is a law. If I were to surreptitiously cross into another country or overstay a...
