Re: Mahasi instructions and the interview process

U Pandita would give his boilerplate description of 'noting' as like watching a line of ants and noting each individual ant. When the aspirant develops this with the sensate contemplation of vipassanā, mindfulness will automatically fall upon any sensate event as it occurs. I followed this method an...

They are great for those with “issues”. Otherwise satipaṭṭhāna will get you there for sure.

The Ānanda Sutta (SN. 44.10) emphasises neither. It only indicates who is a suitable audience for the sublime instructions of doctrine of anatta 'no-self'.

There is the Mahasati practice taught by Luangpor Teean Jittasubho. His basic modality is given in To One That Feels.

A testimonial I like on this method is Bright and Shining Mind in a Disabled Body by Kampol Thongbunnum

I'm being polite. I know Twilight hates that... If you know of such a passage, please quote it, in context.
My response is for you to show why you think such. I have already shown my own work on this topic on this forum.

Re: My criticism of Thanissaro and other "half selfers"

I didn't think it was at all facile when I listened to it, but it was some time ago. Perhaps I'll come across it again at some point, in which case I'll post it. Please do pass that along, even if only in PM. However, as far as I can see, I think BB is correct that there is no sutta that explicity ...

... What I meant was that there are a few hundred hours of lectures on the MN, not a few hundred on not self... Understandable but context is everything. Since you put this forward it would be helpful if you could dig through all that and give us a useful quote. Otherwise my impression from your su...

Re: My criticism of Thanissaro and other "half selfers"

A few hundred hours, really? That Bodhi would devote so much time to such a facile opinion. Disappointing though not surprising leaned against so many others who for the last century were also strangely piqued by this topic. The tough-minded teachings of the Tathāgata are not for the faint of heart.

Re: My criticism of Thanissaro and other "half selfers"

...if you've spent some time reading and listening to Bhikkhu Bodhi, you'll find that he doesn't see it so black and white as you are presenting. I've heard him say on one or two of his recorded talks that in the suttas there is no explicit statement that there is no self. That is fantastic conside...

Re: Brahma worship in Buddhism

This is true. But for purposes of interdependence with Theravāda, at Wat Anālayo (a Theravāda monastery) in Phayao Province (จังหวัด พะเยา), there are images of Lord Brahma and Ganesha. Lord Shiva is given an alter (slightly lower than Buddha) in the outer sala reserved for the bhikkhus morning meal...
