Re: Breakdancing monks

Looks pretty cool, no question.

However, why would you become a monk if you still engage in such activities? :?

Re: Meteor strike in Russia

Didn't an Astroid his Russia before around 1901. Anyway Russia is pretty luck that the Astroid hit river that was covered in ice rather than a city. :coffee: You mean the Tunguska event in 1908: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tunguska_event" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; It is the lar...

Re: Shortage of Pali Canon (English Wisdom translation) books?

Good question... they probably don't sell very high numbers (compared to their best-selling books) of copies, so they don't try very hard to have always enough copies in stock.

Re: School teacher -- a good career choice for a layperson?

I think there are two kinds of people:

One kind of people prefer to work with children, the other kind of people prefer to work with adults.

If you think that you are one of the first kind of people, then working as a school teacher is probably a good choice.

Re: Why do monks cut their hair?

I've always wondered if it had to do with practical reasons, such as, head lice, and since monks are not allowed to kill them, this would be a good preventive. I have long hair, and it's probably less work than shaving to wash it every few days and take the scissors and trim the lenght, every few m...

Re: The role of memory in hunger (and craving?)

Interesting. So, if one eats slowly and mindfully, this should also sharpen one's perception of how much one eats.
So the study also shows that slow mindful eating helps to crave less food.

Some approaches: -do something "extreme", i.e. something that leads you to the borders of your comfort zone -do something which the wise would not disapprove -do something after which you can think "what had to be done has been done" - contentment is always good. -do something which helps other peop...
