My first jhana
While I’ve not mastered the first jhana, I did experience it very briefly once (and only once, for reasons I’ll explain later): Ajahn Brahm calls it a “yoyo jhana” because the meditator goes briefly into the jhana, gets so excited, and the excitement then bounces the meditator straight out of the jh...

Meditation experience
Dear friends, as I enter the next phase of my life, I will have more time for meditation. I hope you can share your experiences about meditation. Your success and "failures". What worked for you and what didn't. Hopefully this Info can help me and others who are interested in meditation. Thanks

Buddha disapprove the use of Mantras
In his Dhamma talk, bhante Dhammavuddho mentioned that Buddha disapprove the use of Mantras as practised by the brahmins. Does anyone know which is the relevant sutta on this issue?

Re: Rebirth
according to ajahn brahm, you can see your previous lives in meditation, and when you see it, you will not have any more doubts. i cant see my previous lives. but if life is a continuum, its only logical that we will still exist after death. i think the analogy of our childhood experiences is approp...

Re: Free will in Buddhism - technically explained
There is no free will. Everything is conditioned. Every thing you say or do is influenced by your past. Instead of free will, it's conditioned will.

Re: Questions regarding my intent to ordain
I don't think you need to tell anyone you are gay. If you are sincere about ordination, I believe you will learn to deal with the problems. Nobody is perfect. No monk is perfect. Just try your best.

Re: Questions regarding my intent to ordain
If you wish to ordain, just go for it. Don't worry about your lust for other men, everyone has lust. Most men are not homosexuals, so most of the monks would not be sexually attracted to you. Lust is just another desire you have to learn to control as a monk.

Re: Ordination with Ajahn Brahm at BSWA, Perth
so you don't like ajahn brahm. So you think he's not compassionate, not qualified to talk about sex. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that. You are entitled to your opinion. I applaud you for daring to criticise Ajahn Brahm who is quite popular.

Re: I believe I have achieved stream-entry.
the state of stream entry means that there is no more back-sliding. it means that you have crossed the stream, there is not turning back. if you havent see any significant change in your behaviour and thoughts, i doubt you have achieved it.
