Re: Is there a good reason to call western monks Ajahn?
Bhante isn't correct either, because bhante is a first-person form of address, and to speak of Bhante Such-and-Such in the third-person is incorrect. You mean "vocative" not "first person". The person being addressed in the vocative is always the second person ("you"). https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/...

Re: Sutta teachings about forgiveness
AN 2.21: Bala-pandita Sutta is the first one that comes to mind for me (already mentioned by Sam Vara). But maybe that sutta is more about pardon, not forgiveness. I am not sure if, and in what way exactly, one should make a distinction between pardon and forgiveness. In SN 35.88 , Venerable Punna ...

Re: How to apply colours to the text ?
Anyone can help to show adding colour to the writing and enlarge it in the post ? You can also add color by directly typing the BBCode into the text: [color=#7700ff]This is purple.[/color] This is purple. [color=#ff00ff]This is magenta.[/color] This is magenta. [color=#ff0000]This is red.[/color] T...

Re: How to apply colours to the text ?
The colour selection button disappears below a certain screen or window width. So on smartphones it is not there. Looks like that's because of this CSS rule in https://dhammawheel.com/ext/spaceace/ajaxchat/styles/all/theme/ajax_chat.css at lines 562-564: @media only screen and (max-width: 550px), on...

Re: Remorse or regret as fruits of kamma
So now I'm curious as to whether you find my elemental theory "hypothesis" at all credible? Did you experience worry, anxiety, sleeplessness between July 22 and sept21? Did you experience mental states related to earth and water like laziness, lust, timidness, dullness in the spring? And now in fal...

Re: Captivates the Mind of a Man
I see no homophobia or bigotry here. In my eyes these are perfectly reasonable logical deductions. But you two obviously disagree about the premises. I think it should be possible to challenge the opponent's premises without resorting to condescension and insults or crying "slander". I had actually ...

Re: List of all Suttas in the Pali Canon?
I think this here is also very informative: "Essence of Tipiṭaka", from Burma, by U Ko Lay, student of Sayagyi U Ba Khin http://tipitaka.org/eot Not a simple checklist of names. But a short synopsis on every major section in the canon and of dozens if not hundreds of single suttas within them. Might...

Re: Hell from doing metta?
I don't know why someone who is very virtuous, very giving can become a human in a favorable condition or a deva. Id rather do this than do metta and end up in hell. Well, it seems quite obvious to me that "metta cultivation leads to hell" (jhana-cultivation to any degree) is a non-sensical stateme...

Re: Hell from doing metta?
Hell from doing metta? How could doing a good action lead to bad consequences? I have no idea. I also think that makes no sense and is probably a misinterpretation. It seems to contradict this categorical statement about kamma and vipaka: "Monks, these four types of kamma have been directly realize...

Re: Have you laid the groundwork for the destruction of the taints?
I don't what that highlighted quote means. It means, for example, when you're sitting on a train or bus, with your eyes wandering around, and you see a pretty girl's boobs, you don't grasp after the boobs with your mind. (See also: after-boob ) :anjali: As to the questions: 1. no 2. yes 3. not sure...

Re: Dictionary.com is dumb and dishonest
the Dude's wisdom: :goodpost: Actually I am sorry that this may have come off as dismissive in a condescending way. What I meant is: I have no deeper reasoning to discuss, but just an opinion. That's all. I am just too fond of making silly jokes. It's an unwholesome habit that I probably should kee...

Re: Dictionary.com is dumb and dishonest
And a dictionary compiled by a team of academics is smart and honest, and authoritative? Why -- can you justify your reasoning here? That's not my reasoning. So, no, I can't. I also would have assumed that there is probably a team of academics working for dictionary.com. But I'm not sure. As I said...
