Re: Dhammayut nikaya in Thailand

It is called Wat Pak Piang. It is just past Luang Por Sim's temple. It is on the right side. You just bear right on the road instead of going to LP's' temple and its on the right. There are nice caves to meditate in there as well.

Re: Scared on Leaving Vajrayana and Staying In It

Hi Tamdrin, Thank you so much for this post, it really helped me.The same problems I had with Vajrayana over a year ago are still there; the issues remaining unsettled. I think now, again, one of the major reasons I see issue with Vajrayana is a lack of down to earth teachings. Everything is about ...

Re: Scared on Leaving Vajrayana and Staying In It

I understand your predicament. I have also been involved in Tibetan Buddhism for many years and have had somewhat mixed feelings about certain aspects of it. I ended up living in Thailand for 7 years and studying and practicing Theravada closely. I also met some "Kubar Ajahns" which are l...

Noble Kātyāyana

I read in a Tibetan text from the 12th century that at the time of the Buddha there was a noble disciple by the name of Kātyāyana. He came across a beggar woman who was suffering greatly from poverty. He encouraged her by convincing her to offer him pure water. She died that night and by the merit o...

Re: has anyone heard of falun gong religion? what do you think of it

My impression is that they are a bit of a cult. I saw that had set up in a major park in Boston last weekend. They are very vocal opponents of the Chinese Government (This is not the bad part about them).

Re: Bodhisatta Path

There is something quite obvious that you are not taking into account. If the bodhisattva goes to hell as a result of such an action this is obviously a ripening of a negative karma. Hell is a state of suffering, no? Hell is not the result of good karma or a virtuous deed. But Asanga doesn't say th...

Re: Bodhisatta Path

This is not necessarily true because performing any one of the ten non-virtuous actions, will naturally lead to suffering. In the case that a bodhisattva does choose to create some small non-virtue in favor of helping more beings, that non-virtue will still ripen as suffering. Not according to the ...

Re: Bodhisatta Path

Can't they tie him up or preach to him or something? I suppose so, but if Asanga had written: An example would be a situation in which a bodhisattva sees a thief or a robber who is intent upon killing many hundreds of living beings — blah blah blah — Having seen this, a bodhisattva then forms the f...

Re: Bodhisatta Path

Not all Mahayana lineages agree with this line of thinking. There was a Tibetan teacher called Protector of the Three Worlds who taught that there is no mixing up virtue and non-virtue. Virtue always results in happiness and non-virtue always results in suffering. There can be no changing of that. ...

Re: Thoughts as not self

How do you let thoughts not affect you if a person thinks a good thought they will feel good if they think a bad thought they will feel bad, It takes effort but I notice when A bad thought pops up if I relax and pay gentle attention to it I see it as not self and don't identify with it I can see it...

Re: Dalai Lama kisses boy and asks him to 'suck his tongue'

This is all being taken out of context by the media. The boy's mom was there right next to the whole thing. The boy asked to hug His Holiness. The suck my tongue comment he just mispoke. check this video for a more accurate story. Media likes to sensationalize and take everything out of the context ...

Re: Dalai Lama kisses boy and asks him to 'suck his tongue'

So the millions of good deeds HHDL has done, promoting world peace, harmony between religions is negated by this one incident? He wasn't trying to hide anything as this was in public and on camera. Sure, it was a case of poor judgement. I think it's pretty clear he is joking.

Re: Dhammayut nikaya in Thailand

There is a temple in Mae Hong Song called Wat Ba Tam Wua. You can do a meditation retreat there. I'm not sure about ordaining. This is their website: https://www.wattamwua.com There is also a temple called Wat Santitham in Chiang Mai city. There is an experienced ajahn there called Luang Por C Nawn....
