Help finding my book!

Hello everyone, Since I have been gone (and why) my computer made a final exit a few weeks back. I had it for over 10 years, and updated to keep her ticking. However, in last year I got lazy and quit backing up files. Now I can't find (on new pc) the excellent book written by (I believe) the forum a...

Re: Bringing upon the change

Help with a quote from Dr. Snyder's book

Can someone help me untangle this quote: ―He recalls to mind his various temporary states in days gone by – one birth, or two or three or four or five births, 10 or 20, 30 or 50, a 100 or a 1,000 or a 100,000 births, through many cycles of cosmic contraction and cosmic expansion . . . Now there come...

Re: Bringing upon the change

Thank you sweet little unspoken, for a fresh perspective. My doctor is the Budhha, if you will. What a wonderful post you wrote. Ideals from young adults are just as important as all of the others. Your youth may grant you clarity. And thanks to all who followed up with the post and second replies. ...

Re: Bringing upon the change

Thanks to all of you for the wonderful replies. Phil, I wanted to wait a day or so before replying to allow those who might help me find the post first. To kirk5a whom had mentioned 'procrastinatiom....' (ie 'shortcut') Absolutely not,' I am known for starting fires under all's butt's (including my ...

Bringing upon the change

This is going to be a strange post I think. I really don't know where to start, but you are the right persons to bring this thought to. As a young teenager, and young adult, i was very very much in control of my emotions. A very logical person, very much like the things I see Buddhists striving for....

Re: Unlock the sutta study threads! Let them be Free!

Although I am new here, and don't know the reason they were locked, I agree with Phil. I try to read one a morning, but cannot ask any questions. it might be helpful to new people like me if we could ask questions in the appropriate places.

Re: Dropping of the 'R'

Thank You Tiltbillings for the answer. I knew it was a dialect change, just not the details. I'm a sticker for knowing detail. O like the fact that it stays within the older texts, that leads me to believe a more true translation. :) Hi Paul :) I'm new to this sangha as well, and have been treated w...

Dropping of the 'R'

Why is the 'R' dropped in words such as dharmma, karma? What brought this change about?

How to 'pay'

I know the monks and nuns take no firsthand payment, at least that's what I understand from my readings thus far. So f I were to visit temple, say here in town; in what manner would I 'pay' for their services? The buildings/land/electric must all be upkept. How is this done with no insult to the mas...

Re: The importance of friendliness (metta)

I wholeheartedly agree Individual. I am always friendly, by nature. But the last few years i've noticed that the children of today (especially) are not graced in social mannerisms. This is definitely from upbringing/ignorance. but the more of us that continue along our path and keep doing the 'frien...
