Does meditation enhance creativity/problem solving ability?

What do you think?

Is there any scientific studies anyone is aware of that I could be pointed to?

Cheers! :anjali:

Wandering Mind Is an Unhappy Mind (article)

http://www.accessrx.com/blog/current-health-news/mind-wandering-meditation-a1112" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I read this article, and to me it seems to make a lot of sense. I posted it on another forum, and it caused quite some upset... mainly I think because people thin...

Re: Neurochemistry of meditation.

The prefrontal cortex is particularly well developed in meditators... it is the region of the brain that allows us to rise above urges like sex, things like violence etc. There was a psychiatrist who was telling me that there was evidence that meditators increase connections in the frontal cortex, ...

Re: Neurochemistry of meditation.

The study there mentions 'transcendental meditation'. What exactly is this kind of meditation? :anjali: "Transcendental Meditation" (aka TM) is a secularised form of Hindu mantra meditation popularised by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi forty years ago. If you are old enough you may vaguely remembe...

Re: Neurochemistry of meditation.

That's incredibly interesting to me right now, Calahand. I suspect that I have undiagnosed ADHD/executive function disorder and am mildly autistic. This suggests that I have an underdeveloped fore brain. I feel that meditation practice has been very useful to me in alleviating a lot of these problem...

Neurochemistry of meditation.

I've asked a similar question before on another forum, but did not receive a very satisfying response.

Does anyone have any idea what goes on in the brain when one meditates? Has there been any science published that I might refer to?

Re: Physical (brain) effects from meditation

Hi Moog, Hi IanAnd, thanks very much! I take this to be a sign of concentrated-ness (it really doesn't seem to be a coincidence that it kicks off when I focus my mind), though I've never heard any teacher mention this phenomenon. If you hang out on Buddhist fora like this you should run into more a...

Re: Physical (brain) effects from meditation

Hi Moog, If you hang out on Buddhist fora like this you should run into more and more people who have experienced this kind of sensation, like you. ... Yes, as Ian says, this sort of thing seems to be relatively common, but I guess manifests in different people in slightly different ways. Which may...

Hi IanAnd, thanks very much! I take this to be a sign of concentrated-ness (it really doesn't seem to be a coincidence that it kicks off when I focus my mind), though I've never heard any teacher mention this phenomenon. Could you give any more clues about how to use this to get to Jahna? That would...
