Re: Bhikkhu Ñanananda

interesting. I just posted a link about papanca-sanna-sankha. It is theme which is rarely discussed, and Nananada was one of rare brave ones. Here is (again) the link to Nanamoli's article http://pathpress.wordpress.com/2010/08/01/papanca-sanna-sankha/" onclick="window.open(this.href);retu...

Re: Nanavira.

Dear Tilt, I think you are getting a bit carried away. My faith on Ven. Nanavira has a similar 'structure' as my faith on the Buddha. Then, try to question the Buddha. I think now, that it is not good idea to discuss Ven. Nanavira and Ven. Bodhi together. That happened many times, and brought unplea...

Re: Nanavira.

There is a lot of Nanavira veneration going on here. Based upon what? Your belief - and this all you can have - that he was a streamwinner? Does being a streamwinner, assuming he was one but cannot prove, make one unquestionably inerrant in all of one's proclamations about the Dhamma? Does it make ...

Re: Nanavira.

The article by Bhikkhu Bodhi  may be of interest also - posted in two parts: As you presented you give a great respect towards Bhikkhu Bodhi, therefore I assume that you take commentaries (etc) too for granted as valuable. I do not think that any alternative approach will be accepted b...

Re: Nanavira.

Alan, thanks for reminding us about Ven. Nyanavira's sottapati day. I forgot about it. Like Retro also I have deep respect for Ven. Nanavira (which is probably quite obvious by now from reading my posts on this forum. ;-) ) I have been studying the writings for many years. At the beginning it was ve...

Re: ven. Nanamoli's opinion of Vissudhimagga

I haven't realize that this tread will have such a respond. Firstly there was a wonder why I posted it, but then it good quite a bit of attention. Why I posted it? As I said, I find it interesting, and - I admit - I am quite sceptical or even against many commentaries. Sorry if my views hurt you. :a...

Re: Prajnaparamita in Theravada?

parsticular aspect?! Are there many? Oh dear, I should study it better. But is it possible to make a general overview?
I guess I haven't properly prepared for this big discussion, but I hope I could get some points.

Re: ven. Nanamoli's opinion of Vissudhimagga

Whether atulo has or not, I suspect the point is that if anyone has, it's Nanamoli Bhikkhu. It's a pretty damning statement from someone who spent the time to do a 900-odd page translation. Retro got the point. Ven. Nanamoli was the traslator of the VM and he is quite well informed of the that comm...

ven. Nanamoli's opinion of Vissudhimagga

Extract from Ven. Ñānamoli's letter to his friend in UK. Undated letter, probably in 1956: "My famous (?) magnum opus (translation) was published last month. I have asked them to send you a copy. If it hasn't arrived by March, let me know (parcels seem to take 6 to 8 weeks to Europe now). It se...
