Meditation question - is this anything?
I feel a bit odd asking this question, but as this has occurred twice now in the past two weeks... here goes. I have been meditating, breath focus, for a few years now; 30-45 minutes each morning and often 10-ish minutes before I retire for the night. I meditate with eyes closed. This morning, and o...

Thai amulet info sites?
I have several Thai amulets. Some I know the temple origin and some I do not. Anyone know of websites where I might research amulets? The sites I'm finding Googling seem to be all sales sites.

Or, sometimes for those with high regard. Thank you for this.Bhikkhu Pesala wrote:It is important to quote the full context, or there is too much room for misunderstanding by those who have scant regard for the Buddhist tradition.

Re: Pope Benedict XVI Says He Will Resign
Doesn't effect me, but as this has not occurred in about 600 years, I wonder what a retired/resigned Pope does? Will he go back to being a Cardinal? An adviser to the newly elected Pope? This might prove to be interesting to see unfold, as it will be played out in the world press.

Re: Ghosts, devas, and brahmās?
I recall reading that in the suttas are references to thirty-one planes/realms of existence into which beings can be reborn. I wonder if these ghosts might be those in the Hungry Shades/Ghosts realm (peta loka)? I seem to recall that this realm is in close connection to the manussa loka, where we ar...

Re: Am I a Buddhist
Hi, I was raised Christian but it never made much sense to me and I gave up my religion. Anyway, I have been looking into Buddhism for awhile, and I follow the teachings of The Buddha, such as the eight fold path and five precepts, and I am open to the idea of karma and reincarnation. So here is th...

Re: Beautiful Jade Buddha For Universal Peace
I had the opportunity to see the Jade Buddha a couple of years ago
when it was on tour in Florida. It is quite impressive, and one does get
a peaceful, tranquil feeling while sitting/meditating in front of it.

Re: Need help with keyboard, pls notebook
OK - no computer expert here - but most keys on a keyboard will pop/snap off the board. You may have a bit of dried sticky stuff under that particular key. If it was me, I'd try popping off that key and clean underneath. Keep in mind I know nothing of the type of keyboard you have, so take my "...

Re: Theravada and Buddha nature
I would appreciate any reading tips...so far the only Theravada book I have read is "In the Buddha's Words" by Bhikkhu Bodhi, and I really liked it. Thanks. This book has been mentioned above, and represents teachings from the Theravada perspective by one of its foremost and respected mon...

Re: Thoughts on weightlifting
Attachment to the body is a recipe for suffering, but if you add moderate weightlifting to a well-rounded regime of exercise then you can improve your fitness and overall health, which is never a bad thing. But lifting solely for confidence or an ego boost is not wholesome. Excellent distinction - ...
