Re: Be prepared

Uhh... not to make light of the current situation in the middle east. But WWI was started because of the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary. And numerous political alliances that drew the various European powers into conflict. So I don't really see the parallels. I also don't thi...

I know this is an older thread and I hate to bump it, but I was wondering the same thing.

Re: Who can vote in the U.S.A.?

Hello all, I heard yesterday that there is a way for Companies to vote in the U.S.A. - but haven't been able to verify this. Can any of our American members comment on this - is it correct or incorrect? with metta Chris I'm sorry, but I think that someone has misinformed you. I remember hearing not...

Re: Is halloween dead?

When I lived in the states, I always found that Sunday nights were the worst for halloween. Most of the little kids have their parties on Saturday and the big kids aren't really going to be trick or treating anyway. Different kinds of fun for them! :jumping:

Re: Sports craze in San Francisco

Now the Giants must face the Texas Rangers in what Americans like to call the "World Series." LOL I've heard that the real reason it's called the "World series" is because it was originally sponsored by the defunct New York newspaper "The World". And the name just stuc...

Re: Only in America

One thing worth noting is that "America" is HUGE. This is so true and I have a feeling that most people really don't understand that. For our Europe friends, America is almost like 50 different countries that happen to share the same language and currency. Individual states have different...

Re: No intention = no kamma?

If you want to make up for it, go buy some birdseed, go to the park and feed his hungry friends. Very good idea! Thanks. The bird was careless and flew in front of a moving car, the bird got the results of that kamma. It sounds like you did the best you could under the circumstances, why wo...

Re: No intention = no kamma?

The trouble with the notion of "no intention = no kamma" is that I don't think there is any such thing as an unintentional action, there are just unintentional results.... ....For an action to be unintentional it would have to be out of ones control, my arm never spontaneously darts into ...

Re: Buddha is fake

Whether or not he has ordained doesn't matter much. The story is boring and pointless. Well..... maybe it is, maybe it isn't. That is up to each individual. However, it is important that we respond to monks with respect. And just for the record, I am not singling anyone out. I just wanted it to be ...

Re: When Buddhists get a tick....

You cant BREAK the precepts. They are not commandments or laws. They are guidelines for personal morality. Rules for training. They have to be interpreted by rational reflection not just a stampede to the nearest literalist interpretation in all circumstances. The idea of the first precept is to pr...
