What's the Pali term for "bare awareness"?

Re: shocked to see sariputta is a reincarnation of Hindu god Krishna

in jakata tales in wikipedia, Krishna a famous god or avatar after death actually born as sariputta and acheived enlightment under buddha. I thought story of krishna was written after buddha parinibbana but now its a thing happended even before buddha was born. It's a good sectarian ploy. Or a bril...

You forgot the Ghata Jataka. (“Kanha” being Pali for “Krishna”.)

Re: God in the suttas?

See the Majjhima Nikaya 1 : Mulapariyaya Sutta. As I understand it, in this Sutta the Buddha states that to presume that there is a "source" from which all things arise is to make an unfounded assumption not based on direct experience. What can be experienced is the end of dukkha, or Nibb...

Re: was jesus an arahant

Sounds like he practiced a form of meditation & ethical conduct but also sounds like self-view. I don't think there can be real attainment with self-view. I'll have to find his material from other sections of the Philokalia to get into whether or not Christianity has something analogous to not-...

Re: was jesus an arahant

Perhaps off topic: jesus was not a christian and buddha was not a buddhist. chownah Buddha did not call himself a "Buddhist" because the term "Buddhism" didn't exist yet. He followed the Dhamma-Vinaya which he rediscovered, in a line of past samma-sam-buddhas. Did the Buddha tak...

Re: Mahayana Buddhism & Individual Karma

The only real disagreement I have with Theravada Buddhism is its lack of recognition for Buddhas other than Shakyamuni Buddha. In the Mahapadana Sutta, the Awakened One speaks of six Buddhas of the past… Yes, but these Buddhas are not seen as existing in the present according to Theravada Buddhism,...

Another interesting (and practical) Stoic text is:

Irvine, W. B. (2009). A Guide to the Good Life: The Ancient Art of Stoic Joy. Oxford, United Kingdom: Oxford University Press.

He also describes his comparison of Stoicism with Zen Buddhism, and why he chose the former.

Re: Buddho Mantra

Focus your attention on the breath, keeping watch over it until you're clearly aware that, "This is the in-breath," and "This is the out." Once you can see clearly in this way, call to mind the virtues of the Buddha, Dhamma, and Sangha, gathering them into a single word, "B...
