Re: Ven. Ñāṇamoli’s Manuscript of the Majjhima Nikāya Publis

Yes, it is quite interesting too look into Ven. Nanamoli's original translation. He was really very good translator, and it is quite unfortunate that he didn't live long enough to finish it. The publisher of Path Press Publications is also interested to prepare a typescript of the manuscript because...

Interesting is that the word 'Buddha' is similar to Slovenian word 'budni' or 'buden', which means 'awaken'. ("Jaz sem budni", "I am awake")

Re: The Shaky Isles are shaking again!!

He just wrote to me a report from the monastery in Stokes Valley: Just now: 6.9! It was like being in old train. Had to run out. I does give a sense of urgency. ... I am hearing fire brigades outside. It is still shaking.... another second severe one 5.2. Yes, that was me. Actually it was 9.5. On h...

Re: What does it mean by radiant consciousness?

I think that you misunderstood the Sutta you are quoting: 'If I were to direct equanimity as pure & bright as this toward the dimension of the infinitude of space and to develop the mind along those lines, that would be fabricated. It is the directing of the equanimity, the establishing of it, pure ...

Re: akaliko -timeless

I will try to be a bit clearer here. Firstly, to avoid any misunderstanding, I do, of course, recognize that there is sense of time, in case if anybody suspected otherwise. Also I understand reasoning of different look into akalika, including that it means that it is visible in this life. For exampl...

Re: akaliko -timeless

I really do not want to go into debate here. You wrote that akalika being translated “timeless” is not practical, I responded to you that it is practical . That is only point I wanted to make. If you still want to retranslate Pali words for the sake of simplicity that is your business and you are th...

Re: akaliko -timeless

In the usual summary of the Dhamma "sanditthiko akaliko etc." most if not all other descriptions are pointing to a practical approach to the Dhamma, and not direct aspects of the Dhamma itself. It speaks about "inviting to investigation", "to be seen" etc. So I also think akaliko must have a sense ...

Re: Practicing Celibacy - Advice needed

So I have decided to practice restraint from all sexual activities, that is from masturbation to sex etc That is one of the best thing to hear that a layman becomes celibate! Good on you! As long as you do it that much will be for your benefit. But since you are refraining from sexuality, why then ...

Re: akaliko -timeless

If we want to understand pañca(upādāna)khandhā we need to recognize it in every experience. But since we do experience time and have sense of time, I cannot see why the Dhamma, i.e. the full understanding of it, should be as the second after time. Therefore Dhamma is akalika, t.i. dhammas, which are...
