Re: Wat Dhammakaya

...I have no problem with ppl who dont like our methods, a lot of ppl dont and i understand why they dont. That doesnt justify the Nazi arms dealer BS ive seen throughout most of the thread. and yes karma is real and effects good ppl also, the buddha himself suffered from bad karma on several occas...

Re: Wat Dhammakaya

Some random thoughts and learnings I've gleaned from this thread so far: 1. It's interesting to see the #TrueBuddhists tap dance their way around the obvious abuse and violations of Thai citizens, just because they disagree on their practice of buddha dhamma. 2. It's also interesting to see the idea...

Re: White American fragility, Asian American Invisibility

Martin Luther King put quite a lot of effort into pointing out that certain groups were being persecuted: Yes, and the way he did it was by emphasizing individualism. So, if I understand well, your argument is that black people in the U.S. should be grateful for whatever way they are treated becaus...

Re: White American fragility, Asian American Invisibility

Regardless of whether we are skeptical of one or another person's experience, it's indisputable that inequality and oppression exist in human society, built on a massive store of unskillful actions past and present. This is a heap of pain and our latent tendency in response to pain is aversion - in...

Re: White American fragility, Asian American Invisibility

Sad for a Buddhist forum, I'm seeing a lot of relatively well off white people claiming "racism is not that much of a problem". Nothing could be further from the truth!! And then they end with Trump as president elect. Growing antisemitism, unarmed black people being shot in the streets, Kor...

Re: White American fragility, Asian American Invisibility

Indra knows that my previous post was just two paragraphs.... I don't need your condesceding attitude or your advise on logging, drinking, or reflecting. First note that once again you have not engaged the issue I have raised....that issue is that it is not common for americans to see an asian face...

Re: White American fragility, Asian American Invisibility

I also have friends of color who experience negative bias, I see it happening around me, and I am subjected to some of those things myself. So why punish me with walls of text? Youre more concerned with policing my tone than the truth of what is expressed in those articles. But I don't pretend to h...

Re: White American fragility, Asian American Invisibility

I would add that you are discussing a real problem, and you are basically asking for people to look into themselves and put themselves into question. That's fair enough, and it's a thing we should all be doing. So, I have looked into myself, and my conclusion was that I am still a racist, in a way....

Re: White American fragility, Asian American Invisibility

...So far it seems that you want to complain about what I say without actually discussing the issues I bring up. You reply to me by trying to say that I have made derogatory words about asian buddhists... I'm going to keep this short because, Indra knows, that was a long wall of text in your reply....

Re: White American fragility, Asian American Invisibility

You mean, like, listening to the opinions of those who may have had a different experience, like Mkoll for example? Sigh, did you read where I affirmed that his experience was valid? I think you are exaggerating... You are entitled to that opinion. I can understand you may feel deeply frustrated wi...

Re: White American fragility, Asian American Invisibility

my uninformed opinion is that both article as are gross exagerations and it seems to me that it is very possible that these articles are based in insecurity with ones own practice and personal angst.....but I don't know for sure.

Re: White American fragility, Asian American Invisibility

Once again, read my request in the OP. It was very specific. Not going to retype that. Very specific ? I have checked your OP and all I could find is this: Are there any Asian American, Asian Buddhists or Buddhists of colour who would like to share any similar experiences or insights? This does not...

Re: White American fragility, Asian American Invisibility

Usually on a forum people debate an issue in a single topic. Both those who agree and those who are against debate in a single topic their differences of opinion. I don't understand why people with a pro opinion about this subject should have their own thread where only people with the same opinion...

Re: White American fragility, Asian American Invisibility

It seems to me that both in the matters discussed in the articles and the content of this thread, the core problem is stereotyping, in other words conflating various things, putting people into boxes with sets of predetermined characteristics like "immigrant", "Asian", "person of color", "white sup...

Re: White American fragility, Asian American Invisibility

Greetings Dhammafriend, Putting away my admin hat for a moment, I want to ask you something in my regular capacity as a member... Earlier , Mkoll identified as Asian-American. I'm curious as to why you didn't wish Mkoll to have the opportunity to share experiences here in this topic as an Asian-Ame...

Re: White American fragility, Asian American Invisibility

Mkoll, then what are you saying, please clarify for us. I (and the authors of those articles I'm sure) would love to here what you actually think of them and the points raised. The floor is yours. For the moderators, I can only stand by my interpretation of what Mkoll wrote, I'm sorry but that's wh...

Re: White American fragility, Asian American Invisibility

Greetings Dhammafriend, Having re-read all of Mkoll's posts in this topic, I find the aspersions you made highly uncharitable and completely unfounded... but since you are seeking clarification from Mkoll at this point rather than doubling down on your assertions, I will give you credit to that ext...

Re: White American fragility, Asian American Invisibility

Greetings Dhammafriend, But to treat whole groups of people (Blacks, Asians, Mexicans) as if they are malicious liars is deeply disturbing to me. Thanks you for clarifying where you stand. Are you insinuating that mkoll said this? Sure sounds like it. And it is a shameful accusation: I know it's no...

Re: White American fragility, Asian American Invisibility

If the two articles presented in the original post are taken to be accurate depictions of what buddhism in the usa has become then american buddhism is really really screwed up. I don't really know because I have never knowingly interacted with american buddhists.....but if I take the two articles ...
