Re: Why we still need monks and nuns

A lot of this author's books appear when someone searches for free books on Buddhism (for example: http://www.freebooksifter.com/?c=260). They say there is no such thing as bad publicity, but it actually is if integrity of a teaching is considered otherwise it will be just like that drum in Ani Sutt...

I heard an anecdote once about a military officer came to him asking for holy water, Ajahn Chah then spat to him because the spat came from a monk so it must be holy.

Re: Why do Monks/Bhikshus have to Chant early in the morning?

in Theravada prostrations are not used as a long ritual or practice, you do the prostration a pon entering and exiting dhamma halls when you are going to do a talk or meditate etc. I watched a monk in Youtube saying that observing our bodily movement while prostrating is a good preliminary exercise...

I am an infant too! I am currently living in Sydney, Australia, but I came from a South East Asian country. My ID there had always been marked as "Buddhist" but actually I knew nothing about it, it's marked that way because I went to Chinese Dao/Confucian temples, noone understood the diff...

Re: I'm so depressed

Whenever you can when you are on a train, or in waiting room, or just doing nothing, close your eyes, take deep breath, put your mind on your breath, your limbs, your chest, your bottom, your nose, everywhere you can "feel", imagine looking at yourself from outside and realise you are sitt...

Re: Depression

I've been diagnosed as suffering from major depression for over 12 years, I've been various medications during this time but still feel as though I'm getting nowhere with gaining emotional well being. Is there a Buddhist interpretation of what depression is? Am I paying the price for negative karma...

Re: Are there any girls on this forum?

I am a woman not girl although I think more like a girl. Women tend to shy away from speaking up their minds or to come forward, there are more fears of rejection and humiliation. I am not sexist, but I feel that's how it is with women around me even in more developed countries. Writing on forum fal...

Can't remember, probably chanting for me. That time I knew nothing about Buddhism, but I think they recited something in language that I didn't understand so it must be chanting. After recovered, I visited the Theravadin group and the Tibetan nun's monastery. Probably one more thing in propagation i...

Re: Thinking about ordination in UK and Broken Buddha

Hello everybody, And then other question, I practice yoga since a long time, and practice it everyday, I was wondering if it's considered as a problem, if it is forbidden if you take the 8 precepts? Is it seen as dancing or as a distraction? Hi Isa, This monk is a serious Yoga practitioner, and he'...

I was in the hospital, got some visitors with religious messages. One of them was a group of Theravadins, and a Tibetan nun. I settled with Theravada.

I think if you'd like to form a dhammaduta group, please do not forget hospitals.

Re: How Insistent Are You in Observing Your Fifth Precept?

I had half glass of sangria on Friday. Funny thing is, I had it when going out with friends from my Buddhist centre. I let my glass filled because everyone had theirs, and since it's in my glass, I finished it. I don't think there's anything wrong with it because we didn't order any second jug, but ...

Re: Autobiography of a Bhikkhu

I've listened to many recorded talks of Bhante Rahula's downloaded on the Internet. He has very straightforward and practical approach to practising Dhamma. Two things that's always in my mind are: - be aware of the status of your practise, if you are not aware, it may degrade and fade away, that yo...
