Re: Nanavira Thera's namarupa (name-and-matter)

Are Nama Rupa in Dependent Origination and the Nama Rupa in five aggregate the same? To answer this, you need to pick a definition of namarupa first. The popular one being namarupa = five aggregates, where nama consists of the following: 1. vedana (feeling) 2. sanna (perception) 3. sankh...

Re: Nanavira Thera's namarupa (name-and-matter)

See the last definition . Maybe this will help? Metta. Note: There is the same bi-directional correspondence between viññana & Nama/rupa. Thanks! But I think the sentence " on account of the six spheres is name and matter " is wrongly translated. SN12.35 : saḷāyatanapaccayā phassot...

Nanavira Thera's namarupa (name-and-matter)

From Clearing the Path In any experience (leaving out of account arūpa) there is a phenomenon that is present (i.e. that is cognized). The presence, or cognition, or consciousness, of the phenomenon is viññāna (q.v.). The phenomenon has two characteristics, inertia and designation (patigha and adhiv...

Re: Visual: Non-time-delineated model of Dependent Origination

:reading: Paul, would you know where one could buy Ñāṇananda Bhikkhu's paperback books, especially Concept and Reality, preferably new and in North America? Sadly, it is not available at pariyatti.org, since there is a waiting list. Maybe you can download and print it yourself from http://www.seein...

If you read those two and wish to read further beyond that (either on the subject, or by author) just let me know. Metta, Paul. :) My current :reading: list: Sutta Pitaka The Law of Dependent Arising Vol 1 - Nanananda Bhikkhu The Law of Dependent Arising Vol 2 - Nanananda Bhikkhu Concept and Realit...

Re: Visual: Non-time-delineated model of Dependent Origination

Greetings, Sorry, I no longer have the original file. If you want to understand how paticcasamuppada works in a non-time-delineated manner, I would recommend Vol 1 and Vol 2 of venerable Nanananda's "The Law of Dependent Arising: The Secret of Bondage and Release". Metta, Paul. :) Great, ...

Re: Visual: Non-time-delineated model of Dependent Origination

I just wanted to share with you a diagrammatical representation of a non-time-delineated that I've designed and modified in conjunction with a few people who have provided useful feedback (who I am also pleased to see are now members of this very board). This map has been very useful for me in term...

How large is the breakfast? Is it large until you feel very full?
Do you have milk, juice or some snacks at the rest of the day?

Re: Why one meal a day?

I wonder if meditation restores energy as I found that sleep seems to do so. Now I practise having only plain warm water after noon. Sometimes when I have too much activity after noon time, I will feel weak at night. But as soon as I wake up in the morning, I feel energetic again. What do you think?...

Re: Why one meal a day?

one meal a day is ok for some body types, but might not work for all body types. Especially if (as I presume) you are a layperson with duties and / or work commitments, you might find that having both breakfast and lunch is necessary to keep your energy levels up (and your blood sugar levels steady...

Thank you. I have been practising two meals per day for a week (light breakfast and normal lunch), hopefully I will make it to one meal per day.

Re: Why one meal a day?

What portion size do you have when you practice one meal a day? Do you eat until you feel very full (to 'cover' the hungriness at night), or just enough? Do you chew throughoutly? I just eat enough. I stop eating just a bit before I feel full and drink a glas of water or two afterwards. When you're...
