Re: Layman Arahant

If a layperson were to become an arahant, then how would they live their daily life? They would have no desire to do anything. I imagine all they would do is teach dhamma, why would they not ordain? It seems like it would be the most effective use of the rest of their time.

Re: A quote from Ajahn Brahm

To put in my two cents: I’m not so sure if the theory of evolution has much to do with the Buddha’s teaching. Evolution is taking a look at an entire species, and how over time species change etc. The Buddha explained the cause for a being to be reborn into a particular state. A certain type of mind...

Re: Lobha, Dosa mutually exclusive: Sutta reference?

I'd like to know why this question is being asked... Aside from idle curiosity about simultaneity, is this the sort of question spawned by one's meditation, through some aspect of practical Sila, ...or is it just a chase after wind? Perhaps there are no Suttas which decide this issue one way or the...

Re: Lobha, Dosa mutually exclusive: Sutta reference?

Hi Tep Thanks for you reply, However I am not sure if I fully agree with your interpretation. They cannot arise at the same time since dosa (aversion) is repulsive and lobha is attractive, thus they are opposite and do not co-exist. ---- Indeed I have heard this and it does seem very reasonable (in ...

Re: Ven Bodhi's "A Course in the Pali Language"

Pali is a fairly easy language for an English speaker. It helps if you have learned another language before, simply so you can break out of the English language mindset. The structure of English is generally Subject Verb Object I like you You like me You can think about why these are incorrect Engli...

Re: Ven Bodhi's "A Course in the Pali Language"

Hi Ben I started it, only on 2nd chapter. I found it pretty helpful. I like the book "A New Course in Reading Pali: Entering the Word of the Buddha". It is understandable with Bhikkhu Bodi's comments (without them, it might be a bit dry and have unnecessarily difficult grammar explanations...

Lobha, Dosa mutually exclusive: Sutta reference?

Does anyone know of a sutta that mentions that Lobha and Dosa cannot arise at exact same moment?

Re: Way of sharing Buddhist files (Buddhist Library)

Thanks indeed, the problem is that it would need a group of people to keep it alive, so unless enough people are interested in helping there is not much point in starting. For me i like to download a series of talks and put them on my mp3 player, so this way would work pretty well without having to ...

Re: Way of sharing Buddhist files (Buddhist Library)

Hi Ben The reason I wanted to start this is because so many of the servers are very slow, plus the fact that to upload video would is very expensive ( I know youtube is doing a great job but sometimes it would be nice to be able to download high quality file). I’m not interested in trying to evade o...

Like / Dislike, Thumbs up / Thumbs down etc.

So far seems all good :)

Would it be possible to put a thumbs up (or recommend) button so that people can find popular posts?

Maybe a ‘random post’ too could be interesting

Re: Way of sharing Buddhist files (Buddhist Library)

Hi Ben,
I've thought of that (part of the reason I haven't done anything about it). But that’s why I was only going to allow webmasters of established websites and ‘free-for-distribution-copyright’

Way of sharing Buddhist files (Buddhist Library)

I’ve been thinking about setting up a site for sharing Buddhist files (P2P). I started before and gave up as it was taking me too long, but every so often I think about it again. Take a look at my ideas and tell me what you think. http://sharingdhamma.blogspot.com" onclick="window.open(thi...
