Re: Spoken Pali?

Well, I understand better the Sri Lankan story, and it appears we're discovering besides that living variation, there appears to be an extent to which Pali has continued to be spoken. Thanks all!

Spoken Pali?

Two stories, one that Pali is an archaic language that is no longer spoken, and another that it's still spoken in Sri Lanka?

What is your opinion?

Good stuff! Thanks for all the links Dmytro. Not as simple as I would've thought.

All the links work. To get the converter, you have to click again on the page that opens. Tables: http://www.omniglot.com/writing/brahmi.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; http://www.ancientscripts.com/brahmi.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Ah yes, I'm mistaken, ...

Can get fonts but not converter. Links don't work properly, or dead on linked pages.

How to manually convert, and tables anywhere?

The earliest Pali inscriptions were made in Brahmi script. Re: satti (shakti) concept in Pali

No, I haven't seen it equivocated into Pali or Buddhism, however the idea of shakti as in shaktipat, and transmission of divine or spiritual energy, I seem to recollect,a dn this is often termed empowerment from teh (so called) Buddhist side. So that brings this more into focus; how, what and where ...

satti (shakti) concept in Pali

HI Everybody,

Not sure if this is the appropriate forum but will dive in.

I'm interested in knowing more about what you think and feel, or resources that can tie together, or distinguish the Hindu concept of shakti, and it's manifestation in Pali and Buddhism, satti.

Thanks,

pronouncing double s in pali

Hello,

Does anybody know off hand if a double s (ss) is pronounced a certain way in Pali?

E.g., in the word vipassana, does the double get an "sh" sound?
