Re: Race, IQ and Idenity politics: A debate.

Is this racist? It depends on the intention as Bundokji noted and also if evidence to the contrary is considered. Arthur Jensen was controversial because of those writings on race. In a later article, Jensen argued that his claims had been misunderstood: ...nowhere have I "claimed" an "innate defic...

Re: Trouble with buddhism view on suicide

I'd also be interested in hearing what views you heard and by whom. While Buddhism is opposed to suicide, it takes a much less harsh view of it, compared to other religions. I am not condoning suicide, but there are cases of arahants (mentioned above) who were considered blameless who basically did ...

Re: Anyone here wearing contact lenses?

I wore contact lenses (soft) from around ages 20 to 30 and had a lot of the problems you are experiencing. It could be allergies, but I also had a lot of mucus building up quickly on the lenses and it got to be too irritating, so just went back to glasses. Or it could just be a natural defense again...

Re: Harry, Meghan and my Papañca

By what standards do these studies measure misery and happiness? By consumerist, worldly standards? I believe it is by self-reporting of their happiness on those surveys. For some that might be worldly standards, for others it might be loftier, spiritual type happiness, general physical and psychol...

Re: Harry, Meghan and my Papañca

I mostly agree with No_Mind; misery can come in all socioeconomic classes, but clearly the most misery is among the impoverished. The biggest gain in happiness comes when one comes out of poverty. It continues to rise up to the peak at about middle-class to upper-middle class. After that it is dimin...

Re: Is Buddhism exclusive ?

The Buddha is said to have been somewhat reluctant to teach due to everyone going around "sleep-walking" but was encouraged to teach due to some with "little dust in their eyes." In this way, it can be seen as somewhat exclusive and elitist in that people have to be ready for it. However, as others ...

Re: Bangkok's death cafe

Actually, this raises an interesting question. Why can't a combat soldier contemplate on death? He can and he does. But it's a tiny bit different between the kind of contemplation done in the deadly heat of the jungle while staring down the gun nozzle of an enemy combatant 20 yards away versus that...

Do you hold that Buddhism is not a missionary religion? Given how many times I've been told, with missionary zeal (!) that it's not a missionary religion: Yes. Were you told that (it is not a missionary religion) mostly from Western Buddhists or Asian Buddhists? I imagine it was most likely from co...

Trump will not be impeached. Many Democrats and liberals are hoping to elect a big blue wave this November in the hope of impeaching Trump. It's not going to happen and here it is explained why it won't happen by a progressive/liberal; Bill Maher. https://youtu.be/pmdEcZZoEWE?t=2855 47:35 edit: appa...

Meghan Markle's mother and father were married in the SRF (Guru Yogananda) temple in Malibu, California. What about dressing up as a Nazi officer?
It was a costume party. I personally would never do that. Everyone makes mistakes, that's why pencils have erasers (Lenny Leonard).

Bad taste perhaps, but not a serious sin.

The UN. What civil law would prevail under the UN? Well, that was the plan under the 1947 UN agreement, so I'm sure they'd figure it out as they go. It's not my original idea, although it's perfect, in my opinion. Jerusalem always has been and always will be the stumbling block to stop all...

Re: Ivanka Trump arrives to watch the slaughter

A lot has changed since the partition plan though. Israel, as a political entity, did not exist before 1948. The partition plan was an attempt to create it. There was a Kingdom of Israel back in biblical times. Actually there is virtually no country on earth today that has a definite historical peo...

But the real legitimate question which is resurfacing again and has been ignored for a long time: why there is a border between Israel and Gaza in the first place? And there is also a border, big wall separating the West Bank from the Jewish areas. In my opinion, just use these barriers and walls t...
