Re: Religion quiz

I removed some of the priority markers and left them all at medium and then I think I also missed the last question, thinking it was about worship of nature, but see that it includes reverence for nature so I checked agree and then noticed that the Jainism numbers went to the top 5 with Theravada st...

Re: Why are far-right political views so predominant on DW?

Perhaps a more "silent majority" around here? I don't know, not necessarily, for example I see members supporting Bernie Sanders (esp during the election year), Jill Stein, that global warming is real, supporting gay marriage, supporting pro-choice for women regarding abortions, speaking out agains...

Re: George Soros is not the evil mastermind behind a liberal conspiracy.

I know some people don't like wikipedia, but actually I think it's pretty good, because vandalism and biased reports, conspiracies, etc are removed rather quickly and so it is not perfect, but very objective. From his bio page on wikipedia: By September 16, 1992, Black Wednesday, Soros's fund had so...

Re: Religion quiz

I always felt Jainism is very close to Buddhism, especially Theravada. I was surprised my results weren’t that high for Jainism. Maybe there should have been a question about vegetarian diet.

Religion quiz

I saw this over at SuttaCentral. It looks pretty good, short quiz identifying which religions match your preferences, similar to the one belief net had in the past: http://www.selectsmart.com/RELIGION/ My results: Your Complete Results: 1. Theravada Buddhism (100%) More Info 2. Unitarian Universalis...

Lost in Translation? Pope Ponders an Update to Lord’s Prayer He has already angered Catholic traditionalists by reconsidering the prohibition on granting communion to the divorced and remarried, and by taking on issues like climate change and economic inequality, as well as with famously freewheeli...

Re: Why are far-right political views so predominant on DW?

I see lots of political-contentious topics being created by a user by the name of L.N. False. I have created topics regarding Right Speech in the Sila section. Saying it is "false" doesn't make it false. You have created numerous meta-discussions, contentious topics, political topics. You ...

Re: Why are far-right political views so predominant on DW?

Just a little over a year ago a poll was made for DW members' choices for POTUS. That thread was closed just a little over 6 months ago. (So it's a fairly recent thread and poll.) 47% chose Hillary Clinton 17% chose Jill Stein So that's 64% of DW members choosing a left wing or left of center candid...

Re: Why are far-right political views so predominant on DW?

Has anyone else noticed a recurring undercurrent of far-right sentiments and views cropping up in discussions here on DW, even in discussions which are not political in nature, such as Dhamma discussion regarding Right Speech? I see lots of political-contentious topics being created by a user by th...

Are those two ladies in the old photo? No, but they were in the show. Ron Palillo, who played Arnold Horshack on "Kotter," died of an apparent heart attack in Florida on Aug. 14, 2012. He was 63. Palillo's character was known for his phrase, "Ooh, ooh! Mr. Kotter!" and his distinct laugh. But the a...

Re: wat metta in Valley Center CA USA

Speaking of Wat Metta, there is a forest fire in San Diego County right now that is not too far from the monastery. The good news though is that the fire is West of the fairly wide Interstate 15 freeway and the monastery is a few miles East of the freeway, so I'd imagine it would take a pretty big w...
