Here I was, hoping that Donald Trump was actually playing 4-D Vulcan-style chess . . . :alien: but from googling see that it is a meme for his strategy of keeping everyone guessing on what his next 'move' will be

Re: extroverts versus introverts

An extrovert won't lose sleep over figuring out which religion is the right one or how can one know whether one knows the truth. They just gloss over such problems and go with the program instead, and are better off for it. But what if they choose the wrong one? :D Yes, I agree extroverts are more ...

Re: Do Western Buddhists believe in Kamma at a granular level?

According to the Theravada tradition, kamma does not explain everything. There are 5 levels of cause and effect. https://dhammawiki.com/index.php?title=5_levels_of_cause_and_effect Some events might happen due to the physical world, i.e., the weather, weather abnormalities, etc. Other Dharmic paths ...

Re: extroverts versus introverts

There was a thread on the Myers-Briggs personality test a couple of years ago. https://dhammawheel.com/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=22486&hilit=Myers+Briggs Most people on this site who responded tended to be introverts, and I remember being surprised at the time by how "similar" we seeme...

Re: extroverts versus introverts

Extraversion is the state of primarily obtaining gratification from outside oneself.[4] Extraverts tend to enjoy human interactions and to be enthusiastic, talkative, assertive, and gregarious. Extraverts are energized and thrive off being around other people. They take pleasure in activities that ...

Re: The False Song of Globalism

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia: I might choose that over gridlock. I don't know. :D That's true, once I was stuck in the Holland Tunnel for over 2 hours, trying to get to Manhattan. Why would the powerful accept to lose power to the weak ? Karuna. Yeah, I know, like that is going to happen. In the long run,...

Re: The False Song of Globalism

Hopefully this will change by 2050. The world will revolve around Beijing and Delhi instead of NY and London. Good riddance. Perhaps I'll be able to make it the 1 mile across midtown Manhattan without it taking two hours. Addis Ababa, Ethiopia: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UEIn8GJIg0E Fortunatel...

Re: The False Song of Globalism

And last but not least, the most important benefit of the EU is preventing wars or all kinds of problems between european states. Many of the countries of europe have huge historical hatred towards one another. Even if there would not be all-out wars, countries would still be constantly forging all...

Re: The False Song of Globalism

A bit of idle musing here - I wonder what will happen to the notion of nation-states when the aliens finally arrive? Will national sovereignty fall by the wayside in our scramble to survive? Will we suddenly be one big happy human family, blind to race, creed, gender, borders, united in the battle ...

Re: Why one meal a day?

Sure, eating a lot at one go make one sleepy, but one can eat just till 70-80% fill and eat up to 3-4 meals should they move around a lot. I also find allowing liquid food is contradictory to this rule. So for a monk that is not active and take in too much calories that could be obesity/diabetes/ca...

Re: The world is ignoring an ‘unprecedented’ starvation crisis

Unfortunately this is too true. Too often carnage in Africa from war or famine gets ignored. Here in the U.S. often such news just makes the 'ticker' news scrolling at the bottom, not one of the main topics.

Re: The False Song of Globalism

And there was the League of Nations, the UN, NATO, SEATO, etc, lots of globalism pushes for a long time now. But with all those pressures -- Trump still won. Albeit, a narrow win, in spite of what he claims; he basically won the electoral vote by winning Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania -- an a...

Re: Future resolution of division in US society?

I agree with this Mr Man. I don't think kamma quite covers it in many cases. If we look at Donald Trump for example, he clearly is not a person of bright kamma, wisdom, virtue or generosity, yet he has much wealth and power. Yes, of course kamma does not explain everything, according to the Therava...
