Re: Bhante Sujatos and karmic snobbery.

I know why people are wealthy and why they are not, which includes myself (because I know exactly the causes for the wealth I earned and the wealth I did not earn). Its got nothing to do with being generous in a past life. How do you know this? Do you have iddhi powers? It could be from past life g...

Re: Bhante Sujatos and karmic snobbery.

If Jeff Bezos was generous in a past life, why is he paying his Amazon employees $15/hour in the present life a The U.S. federal minimum wage is only $7.25 or $7.50. He is paying them $15 which is double the minimum wage amount. It was seen as a generous move. I'm not saying he's a generous guy, I ...

Re: Are we hypocrites?

Judge not, that you be not judged. For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. And why do you look at the speck in your brother's eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me ...

Re: Determinism vs Dependent origination

Buddhism doesn't fit into full-fledged free will or determinism, imo. It is more of something in the middle, although much more toward determinism, imo. Life events and apparent decisions come from past events, conditioning, upbringing, etc and Buddhism would add also from kamma. Free will implies a...

Re: homosexuality

I think Theravada is one of the most accepting / tolerant Buddhist schools toward homosexuality. For example, in some Mahayana schools or sutras, certain sex acts are prohibited, which effectively prohibit homosexuality. I strongly doubt the Buddha would have approved of homosexuality unless you ca...

Re: Bhante Sujatos and karmic snobbery.

Middle way guys. Just because taking kamma to an extreme to the point where u are inactive doesnt mean u throw out the whole thing. The key is issue is "everything" is caused by kamma is a wrong view. Yes, I agree. "Everything" is caused by kamma -- wrong view. "Nothing" is caused by kam...

But it's not just in MN 135 as others have noted, see also RobertK's posts They sound like later texts. I am not denying to past-life frenzy obviously become very popular; probably under King Ashoka. Translation: If it doesn't fit your pre-conceived view, it's a later text. If it fits your ...

Re: Bhante Sujatos and karmic snobbery.

Also, there is 0% evidence the Buddha taught MN 135 to the Baby Brahmin Boy. But it's not just in MN 135 as others have noted, see also RobertK's posts. There are numerous places where some evil act is done and then the results of that bad kamma is manifested in some bad rebirth or thing happening ...

Things could happen for other reasons too, including natural laws (dhamma niyàma), biological laws (bãja niyàma), physical laws (utu niyàma) and psychological laws (citta niyàma). As far as I understand, these classifications are not found as such in the sutta pitaka. The concepts may be, but the t...
