Re: Double Truth aka Two Truths
Nargarjuna in Mulamadhyamakakarika, refers to it not sunnãta but the doctrine of paticcasamuppada. I think they utilized paradox and even nonsense to demonstrate that true wisdom is intuitive and cannot be conveyed by concepts or in intellectual terms, in the sense of critic to the dualism. The name people describe the illusion and awakening doesn't matter. The Buddha teached it, if not so... all would be a lie.
There is the noble truth and common truth.

Re: The arising of the Dhamma-eye
Greetings,
The arise of dhamma-eye happens when a person have direct knowledge about one or more caracteristics of existence.
Thats the great point, direct knowledge or abstract knowledge? Both should walk side by side...

Re: Theravadan view on Vajrayana Gurus?
It is difficult to say something, but emptiness have to be mixed with interdependente phenomena. So some teachings or teachers that rely too much on emptiness... one should be carefull... because one can fall in amoralism or absolutism... being an incorrigeable person of wrong view such as Makkali G...

Re: Did anyone here attain jhana?
When I was born I couldn't walk. Now I can, I learned it by observing other people doing it and strengthening my body members step by step. Mundane jhanas can be cultivated and mastered. Supramundane jhanas can't be cultivated and mastered, you just abide in them. Just some reflections. You can only...

Re: "Rise and Fall" How to practice it?
View phenomena occoring an cessating, just it, do not elaborate while observing them. Bramahjala Sutta can correct mistakes of false metaphysical assumptions, this include the "I". 'The Rise and Fall' is prejudicated when the supreme net of 'I' is experiencing the phenomena. The works of T...

Re: Can open, non-absorptive concentration lead to jhana?
Look this sutta: I have heard that on one occasion the Blessed One was staying near Savatthi in Jeta's Grove, Anathapindika's monastery. Now at that time Ven. Subhuti was sitting not far from the Blessed One, his legs crossed, his body held erect, centered in a concentration free from directed thoug...

Re: Is Buddhism Anti-Life?
Sorry to start with a provocative title, but I have wrestled with this for a long time. In my "search" for the best way to live, no "path" makes as much immediate and practical sense to me as that of Buddhism, and particularly Theravada. I have studied it alongside many other tr...

Re: Impermanence
Namaste, WHat exactly is impermanence according to the Buddha - that nothing lasts forever? But is there a duration for various objects? For instance, A may last longer than B even though they're both impermanent. But the difference could be huge. So is the term impermanence used rather loosely her...
