It does not say the Buddha specifically used anapanasati to reach awakening, it only says it helps developing the four kinds of mindfulness.

Re: Anapanasati of Awakening

I don't know, where did you hear it? Anapanasati of Awakening

What is the source of the idea that the Buddha practised anapanasati that led him to awakening?
(In MN 36, 85, and 100 it's only 'breathless absorption' that I have found, while in MN 26 nothing about breath. SN 54.8 only says he practised it regularly.)

Canonical Source of Posture

Is there anywhere a detailed description (legs, back, hands, head, etc.) of the sitting posture in the Pali Canon? If not, what is the earliest source?

Re: Layman Arahant

Ben,

Thanks, I found the only discussion in that part about Lay Arahants, so thought it's OK there.

Freewaru,

I've never met that kind of interpretation, nevertheless, it sounds interesting.

Layman Arahant

There is an interesting essay by Piya Tan: Layman Saints. Basically it shows how the view that an arahant must be a monk or die shortly is not necessarily true. I'd like to hear some educated opinions about it.
