If 'anatta', then why compassion?

I know this is probably a common question but I can't think of where to look up the answer. Is there anywhere in the Suttas where Buddha explains why realisation of anatta leads to compassion? If there is no self, and one realises this, wouldn't they more like stop treating everybody else as individ...

Which english translation of the Visuddhimagga?

I have found so far two english translations, an older one from the Pali Text Society and a more modern one by Bhikkhu Nanamoli. I took a look at the Nanamoli one and I'm a bit worried that the language is so modern, it loses some of the technicalities of language that appear to be present in the ol...

Re: Uposatha Observance Club

I'd requested to join. I would like to attempt to keep the 8 precepts on these days. I enjoy keeping them when I am at Amaravati Monastery.

Hello from London, UK

Hello to everybody here. My name is Zac and I am 21 years old, originally from Australia but moved to the UK 7 years ago and have been living here in London ever since. I've only just started out on the Theravada path - I come from a background of Western Occultism and Magick, and I really did think...
