I see no wrong in that, as long as the intention is pure!

Although its not a place I've ever wanted to read something myself, I agree that pure intention is all important - that and the lack of a queue of other people waiting to use the toilet!

Re: Is it okay to read buddhist text while i am using the toilet, having a smoke?

Friends of mine said that Tibetan Buddhists they once practiced with (at Bodh Gaya) were meticulous about not putting the sheet of paper with the text for chanting on the floor, and were mildly shocked when our friends did it. Our local monastery doesn't worry about treating texts etc. with particu...

Re: Convincing my family to stop selling insecticides, pesticides

i fear the kammic result would be even worst.Would it not be better that they do not know and continue selling rather then me telling them it is bad kamma and they continue to do so While I believe that intentional actions can have consequences of one kind or another, I don't really believe in "pun...

Re: Convincing my family to stop selling insecticides, pesticides

My family owns a small restaurant supply shop. 99% of the business is restaurantware but they do have a small section in their store dedicated to selling insecticides and pesticides. The thing is, the business is operated by both my parents and my aunt and uncle so i would need to convince more the...

Re: Astral Projection

Woke up in the middle of the night to deafening loud noises and the whole body feeling like it was electrified. Started at the ceiling absolutely terrified and not knowing WTF is happening. Several seconds later, I got off bed, walked to the door, and was looking at my body. I screamed and instantl...

Re: Mahāyāna bodhisattva/buddha sharing names with lower devas in suttas

. Both Vajrapani and Vairocana occur in Tibetan Buddhism (which I was involved with in "meatspace" for a number of years). However, in general , I didn't, to my knowledge, practice any "demon worship" ! There's more about them here: http://www.khandro.net/deity_tale_of_two.htm Excerpt: When Vajrasat...

Re: Feminism for men

Medical proefssionals don't think humans are self-realized agents and that instead they need to be told what to think, feel, speak, and do, like robots. And women and unborn children pay the price. I'm not a licensed medical professional, but as mentioned earlier, have been a medical writer and res...

Re: Feminism for men

I tend to agree with Binocular, in that women/girls are unhealthily sexualised from any early age; particularly in the government education systems. What I personally think is an absolute non-sense is believing having a secondary school teacher & complementary therapist qualification would make a p...

Re: Feminism for men

In Western culture, women are primed from early on to believe that it is necessary and acceptable to risk health and life for sex, No they're not. What kind of bs is this? chownah Well said chownah. However I 'm bowing out of this topic for the second time because I'm busy doing other things and ge...

In Western culture, women are primed from early on to believe that it is necessary and acceptable to risk health and life for sex, and that if they have a problem with that, then there is something mentally wrong with them (and they should seek treatment). Women are taught to believe that sex is wo...

Re: Feminism for men

Unless you both have access to psychic powers and phenomena and can scan the whole world with your supernormal vision, I am not sure how you are able to come to this conclusion - except maybe in the two different countries in which you both live. Its also likely that if women are meditating quietly...

Re: Feminism for men

As the Buddha taught, there are many empty huts & many foots of trees but I don't notice women sitting under the many shady trees attaining Nibbana bliss. Agreed! Which I find very disconcerting. Unless you both have access to psychic powers and phenomena and can scan the whole world with your supe...

Re: Feminism for men

I am not sure what the correlation is between the worldly hopes in the OP with a sutta about Nibbana? As the Buddha taught, there are many empty huts & many foots of trees but I don't notice women sitting under the many shady trees attaining Nibbana bliss. Sorry. But I doubt making impressionable w...

Re: Feminism for men

Your point of view comes from a man, so of course it cannot accurately describe the actual lived experience of women. My experience as a woman was completely different from what you describe, and mine may be different from that of other women. However, despite the differences, men and women have a ...
