Re: 30 day retreat

I have done many one-month meditation retreats in Thailand as part of my ongoing, annual "ritual". I would not hesitate one moment to highly recommend it for everyone. You progress much quicker than you would doing meditation at home. Important: Try to settle all unfinished business before...

Re: Sitting for long hours

1) Is this normal? Not sure for others, but it was for me. It went from numbness to mild pain to excruciating pain so much so that my clothes were full of sweat and my body was shaking. 2) Will it be fine with practice once my legs gradually get used to it? Yes. Your body will get used to it and sud...

Re: Jhāna According to the Pāḷi Nikāyas

I ask because I've always wanted a comprehensive text on the subject of meditation that looked at the subject exclusively from the perspective of the suttas, devoid of the original insertions of commentators (either modern or ancient, Theravadin or other). Alas to date I've found nothing that satis...

Re: Anatta question, letting go

Is the practice of letting go of the 'one who knows' even realising the knowing as anatta? I have read that many meditators even get stuck up on taking this knowing/awareness as an 'atta'. Any sutta's support this or teachings I am unaware of? You may find the following article about the seventh an...

Re: Not Everything Is Written In Stone. . .

And though the capacity to form thoughts is not disabled, it is calmed and under control, though a subtle flux of attention always remains. Not proliferative thought by any means but the acts of noticing and comprehension continue to operate, and preferably are put to work on insight themes. I woul...

Re: Ingram, et al - "Hard Core Dharma" & claims of attainment

Folk and Ingram has simply re-interpreted the vocabulary of the Dhamma to become something else altogether. This is exactly what bothers me a lot and used to confuse the hell out of me. I was trying very hard to see where I got my understanding of the suttas (as well as my meditation practice) so d...

2x1 hr (1 morning 1 evening), 3-4 x1 hr on a good day. At least 30'/day if I don't have time.
