Re: Dhamma and Abortion

Abortion is morally wrong and I refuse to do it. That is the only choice that matters to me. Whether it is legal for someone else to do it is irrelevant to me because immoral stuff is legal in different places and I reject engagement in most politics. If you would conceive a child in a rape, you wo...

Re: I have a dream today ~ 2 type of freedom

It's all second hand, Sam. My posts are more objections than support for misappropriated statements regarding what some authority has said vs the reality of a poster. Of course, you can say the same things about me and my posts. This doesn't make you wise, you know, or right. Everything I object to...

Re: Doubt, Dhamma and the Middle Way

Having done those things, I falsified it to my own satisfaction. I found that the hypothesis "no such testing can be possible" was false. That testing is possible. Whatever complexity there was, the results were not in fact "all over the place", and it did indeed allow me to make a meaningful inter...

Re: Jordan Peterson - The Problem With Atheism

JP made me laugh when he said: " We did not fix the female reproductive cycle until the 1960s ". Essentially, he said that Nature or God created the female organism to reproduce offspring is something inherently problematic & broken that needed to be " fixed " or " repaired ". Doesn't sound like Ju...

Re: Is it at all possible to get rid of poverty entirely?

Should we accept once and for all that poverty is going to be there .. that it cannot be wiped out entirely? What exactly is so bothersome, so troubling, so offensive about poverty? I think those implicit assumptions need to be brought to the fore and explored first, before one can attempt to think...

Nope , your assumption not correct , you don't know him and the actual situation and this was his perception which is wrong .
Why would a monk's perception on this be wrong? Who else decides whether someone is qualified for Buddhism or not?

Re: I have a dream today ~ 2 type of freedom

The lack of teachers and the interest to disseminate the Buddha's teaching is a disadvantaged to Buddhism as a whole . I don't think there's a lack of interest to disseminate the Buddha's teaching. I think it's that the Buddha's teaching is so specific, requires such personal qualifications that si...

Re: Member Poll on "News, Current Events & Politics" at DW

Now that I've opted out of the News and Politics section, everything looks nice and restful, and dhammic. Highly recommended. I don't take issue with the News and Lounge section per se. I find them to be just the culmination of loose morality (!) that can be found elsewhere on the forum. To me, the...

Re: Member Poll on "News, Current Events & Politics" at DW

What do we do then about and for the so-called "Engaged Buddhist"? what 'we''d do is ignore the engaged buddhism and cast it out of our community or rightly criticize it but also ignore it and not let it creep in and fester Ha! True. But again we are dealing with something that varies between indiv...

Will never get to see the land of Douglas McArthur and Neil Armstrong .. hmm
It's not like you have the money for that anyway. :(
And the money that you do have would probably be better spent on other things.

Re: Should starbucks allow non- customers to use restrooms and seating?

Many non-leftists no longer frequent Starbucks due to their policies and promotions. Oh well. AFAIK, Starbucks is rather pricey, and I thought that would be the major factor in who goes there or not. I also think that if some relatively pricey establishments would have such a liberal policy (free a...

...the need to accomplish anything is but worthless effort at the end of the day. Does this mean that the Buddha's teaching will always remain as a secondary movement or even cease to be of any role to human being in the platform of the world eventually ? Remember the Buddha taught laypeople a lot....

It is official policy to ensure that amenities are available to everyone with or without paying for anything.
Where??

You don't even have to go to some godforsaken sub-Saharan African country to see that there is no such official policy. Instead, try Venice, Italy.

Re: Doubt, Dhamma and the Middle Way

I would humbly suggest that one sane and fruitful approach is derived from Karl Popper's philosophy. We provisionally accept a particular view based on one of the mental activities outlined in MN 95, and then subject that view to the test of practical experience. If experience falsifies it, then th...

Re: Member Poll on "News, Current Events & Politics" at DW

I think a problem is that most of the topics are just discussing news and politics and are not even trying to Discuss it in terms of the Dhamma, perhaps that is the problem and enforcement of what is already in the description of the sub is the way to handle it; A place to bring a contemplative / D...
