Re: Moderation in eating

I think it has been a red flag as you say. Last night I had a complete lapse in mindfulness and consumed alcohol.
I really do feel ashamed of myself. There’s a lot of effort I need to put into sorting my life out. Some old patterns of behaviour creeping back in.

Re: 5 precepts

With deeds of lovingkindness, I purify my body. With open-handed generosity, I purify my body. With stillness, simplicity, and contentment, I purify my body. With truthful communication, I purify my speech. With mindfulness, clear and radiant, I purify my mind. [/quote] I like that, as a companion ...

Re: Moderation in eating

Thank you for your advice. I think not eating after 6 is a good idea. I’ve tried not eating after 12 but it simply does not fit in with my lid at the moment. I generally don’t snack around meals so that is good.

Re: Moderation in eating

I think this happens whenever my practice lapses . I tend to over focus on food... either eating too much on one go, especially at night or not eating at all for long periods. I need to find a middle ground I think.

Moderation in eating

A major hurdle in my practice at the moment is moderation in eating.

I can eat nothing all day if I choose but when I do eat I seem to eat quite a lot.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

The Thai Forest Tradition is not the only place to find western monks.

Bhante Bodhidhamma and I both follow the Mahāsi tradition.
Where are you based, venerable?

All the monasteries in the uk are of the Thai forest tradition of Ajahn Chah.
That doesn't sound right, as I think there are only five monasteries/viharas in that tradition in the UK.
A sweeping generalisation I admit

Is there a ‘western sangha’?

Following a recent discussion on another thread I wanted to raise the question, is there a western sangha? As in is there a Buddhist tradition in its own right? There are lots of monasteries all over Europe, the UK and in the states. All the monasteries in the uk are of the Thai forest tradition of ...

Re: Latest announcement from Amaravati monastery. (Good dhamma inc)

I never anticipated that this thread would be so interesting ... I think the Buddhist chaplaincy is very good in this country. Again, it’s good that people are recognised for their efforts and I doubt Luang Por wears his OBE medal on his robes 😂 I think they do a lot of work with local schools as we...

Re: Latest announcement from Amaravati monastery. (Good dhamma inc)

I would just like to say, it is great to hear from you Bikkhu Jayasara, I am new to dhamma wheel but have been following you on YouTube and Facebook and always enjoy your posts. I’m sure the monasteries have to pay a certain lip service to the ‘home country’ but there must be some autonomy there(?) ...

Re: Latest announcement from Amaravati monastery. (Good dhamma inc)

It’s a good thing I think for the western sangha, I’m sure these monks don’t take the honour personally at all but realise the good that can come of it. Also, they deserve to be recognised for all the compassion and love they have shown in following and teaching the Dhamma.
