Re: Buddhas before Lord Tanhankara

Dear Friends in Dhamma, I plan to follow up with some summary of my findings. But in the meantime, I am still investigating various sources. Part of my curiosity along these lines is due to having come across mention of a very ancient Buddha, named Brahma-deva Buddha. I came across this in some foot...

Re: Buddhas before Lord Tanhankara

Dear Venerable Sir,

Is the Anagatavamsa not a Theravada commentary?

Metta and peace,
Bowing and thanks,

Re: Buddhas before Lord Tanhankara

Dear Cookiemonster,

Those are the only ones mentioned in the suttas, but the Buddhavamsa is counted by many as included within the Pali Canon. I believe the Jinakalamali is a Thai post canonical work.

Buddhas before Lord Tanhankara

Dear friends in Dhamma, Does anyone have any information on the names of the Buddhas before Lord Tanhankara? I have found passing mention in various works of Buddhas which supposedly precede Lord Tanhankara. Among those are Sirimata Buddha, Mahutta Buddha, Sumita Buddha, and a previous Metteyya/Mait...

Re: Saddha

Dear all, I wanted to thank you all again for your replies. DooDoot and samsarictravelling, thank you for directing me to MN 60. I had skimmed it in search what I was looking for, but missed the important bits. 😁 (kiriyavada, etc.) Somewhat related, someone has something akin to "This being is bound...

Re: Saddha

Dear all, Thank you for the replies. I was aware of all these passages. I was looking for something that specifically linked up saddha with right view and/or kamma, along the lines of the third quote above. I suppose all these passages do illustrate a connection, but I was seeking something short an...

Re: Saddha

Dear Friends in Dhamma (again,)

I should specify that I'm hoping for a sutta passage and not something commentarial. Any definition of saddha besides conviction in the Lord Buddha or the Triple Gem will do.

Metta and peace,
Bowing and thanks,

Saddha

Dear Friends in Dhamma, Is there a passage which defines saddha (faith/conviction) as conviction in kamma and its fruit? I seem to recall there is, but can only find its opposite quality (doubt) defined as a lack of conviction in kamma and its fruit.... Metta and Peace, Bowing and thanks, Abhaya/And...
