Re: What could rouse more conviction?

Read dhammapada stories and jataka. They are excellent in depicting life of the Buddha, his disciples and their conduct in tough times. There are instances in these stories where the Buddha was abused, slandered and scolded, the tathagatha endured it all patiently with no anger or hatred arising in ...

Faith-follower vs Cula-Sotapanna

Cula-sotapanna is the concept I have only encountered in Visuddimagga and not in any suttas. Cula-Sotapanna is an individual who has attained first 2 insight knowledges 1. Knowledge of distinction between mind and matter and 2. Knowledge of conditionality A Cula-Sotapanna is said to be one assured o...

Can their storylines be taken seriously?
Yes.

Jatakas are taught by the Buddha just like any sutta and its final goal is to make beings mend their faulty ways and seek nibbana.

Whatever happens a Buddha never tells lies, the Buddha always speaks the truth.

Upcara Samadhi and its powers

I have read on many Buddhist posts about upcara samadhi also known as access concentration which is near to first jhana and the experiences of various meditators in it. They say that with Upcara Samadhi one can hear deva sounds, visualize heavens and Brahma heavens, can visualize hells, various pret...

What is Path and Fruition?

Path and fruition for the 4 stages of holy disciple are frequently mentioned. I understand that the fruition is the removal of the fetters and realization of the knowledge of that respective attainment (stream entry, once returner, non returner, arhatship ). The holy disciple knows that he is a stre...
