Re: Six sense base without sense object any sense consciousness ?

Yes you can hear, smell, taste, touch, see, and think of nothing. It does not mean the corresponding consciousness is activated at all times. Rather, it is as Dinsdale stated, where you place your perception on and then consciousness lands onto the respective object through the appropriate sense door.

Re: sophism

Consciousness, when in reality there is no one who is aware, is also a sophism. A purely mechanical process, which no one observes at all, can be called such a “consciousness”. Consciousness does not suffer, nor does it crave. Consciousness is like light in that it knows objects. Sankhara is the po...

Re: The REAL Patticasamupada

Sir, I respect your efforts but this is an EXOTERIC understanding of the above sutta. What body here means is the "body of the moment." "Death" means "the death of the moment." Buddhadasa teaches us that paradise is available here and now when we destroy the grains in ...

Re: The REAL Patticasamupada

Hello Friends! All that you have thought about patticasamupada may be wrong. The Glorious and world renowned Buddhadasa teaches us that rebirth is a lie. We are reborn every second! New borns are arahants, and through phassa comes avijha. This is the Teachings of all the Buddhas. Note it! buddhadas...

Re: Ajahn Sucitto says mindfulness is "not judgmental", I say it is very judgmental.

The point is not to let mind leak out the sense doors through improper attention. The judgement is making the choice to let go of unwise pursuits, not being critical of people or things. In this way we can preserve the energy of mindfulness and remain fixed to the path of removing the stains from ou...

Re: How to see dependent origination in meditation?

Feeling, perception, volition, contact and attention — these are called mentality. The four great elements and the material form derived from the four great elements — these are called materiality. So this mentality and this materiality are what is called mentality-materiality. With the arising of ...

Re: How to see dependent origination in meditation?

Also, what is neighborhood concentration? Hi J. Neighborhood concentration is a level of clear stable concentration that is not the level of jhana that is mentioned in the Commentaries and also taught by non-Commentary meditation teachers. For example, the Anapanasati Sutta refers to 16 experiences...

Re: How to see dependent origination in meditation?

It seems a stream-winner does not have 1st jhana. If stream-winner had 1st jhana, the fetter of sensuality would be cut or otherwise severely reduced. Suttas such as AN 9.34, MN 75 & Dhp 290 say familiarly with the non-sensual pleasure of jhana eradicates desire for coarser sensual pleasure. Bu...

Re: The mindfulness conspiracy

I don't see what could be more activist than trying to uproot greed, hatred, and ignorance from your own being. I'm at risk of being a bit too political here, but what is the force that drives destructive global consumerism? Is it not the sum total of beings upon beings projecting their greed, hatr...

Re: SN22.53 Involvement.

Consciousness is like this juggler :juggling: Consciousness does not cognize a mixture of khandhas; it processes them in rapid succession one at a time. In samadhi you still this process by calming the mind where there is only one object of cognition. Form (in the solid sense for example) can be an ...

Re: Why the wealthiest person not buddhist ?

Not everything is due to kamma. Everything related to experience of pleasure and pain is due to kamma. Otherwise it's unfair. If I go into a convenience store and choose to drink a coke instead of a pepsi this is not due to kamma. Nope. The Buddha refuted that view. That’s Jain talk. I think it's b...

Re: Anatta and Dukkha

soul is the shining luminous one what enters the body. Soul is not the body. I think it can't be defined by khandhas so it is not 6th nor any of these. Buddha stated the consciousness is the khanda that takes rebirth. He also stated the consciousness doesn't remain the same. From where did you lear...
