Re: Volunteer work-assist disabled people

Wonderful of you to offer such needed generous and selfless services. As I understand it, disabled people do often need assistance getting around in Thailand (I am disabled and have looked at it a bit). So this is a great thing to offer. :anjali:  Good to hear from you. I had offered this...

Volunteer work-assist disabled people

I am not sure this is the right place to put this notice. I have about 2 months free time to assist disabled people. 1. If you are in Thailand ok. Other countries may be a problem due to air-fares etc., 2. You need to pay for the train fare for me to travel to Thailand (from Malaysia) 3. Food and ro...

Re: Results of past karma

Is it true that most of the things we experience now is the result of past karma? If so, do these results only manifest as outward events (such as illness, accident, winning lottery, etc.)? Or do they also manifest as our subjective experiences like anger, sadness, etc.? Kamma is a long-term proces...

Re: Japanese-speaking Theravada monasteries or monks?

I think, learning to depend on how desperate you are. I was born to no-English speaking parents had little exposure to Pali. I need to learn English and I did not have a teacher. So I started reading billboards and started listening to English / Sinhal news translations and read English / Sinhala t...

Re: Diabetic symptom problems -with regards to ordinationation

Have you spoken to a doctor about it? Have you been diagnosed as diabetic? No, I have not spoken to a doctor or been diagnosed as diabetic. But it is so obvious isn't it? With all those symptoms you can't be wrong with this self-diagnosis. I think I will go and see a doctor just to confirm it. Oh, ...

Diabetic symptom problems -with regards to ordinationation

I wonder whether anyone has asked this question already. I have diabetic symptoms- by that I mean if I eat the wrong foods e.g. too much sweet things I get the diabetic symptoms - skin itch, sudden drop of blood sugar(hypoglycemic) get very hungry, very uncomfortable feeling and cannot think clearly...

Re: Form is emptiness

Does any Theravadin here believe that the Mahayana Suttras are the words of the Buddha? Here's an article written a number of years ago about the Northern and Southern traditions by Ajahn Amaro, who's the Abbot of Amaravati Theravada Thai Forest Tradition monastery UK: The View from the Centre: htt...

Re: Drinking Water in South & Southeast Asia

Water from wells can be drunk. If the water was doubtful, then I used an electric heater and a tin mug. If there is no access to electricity, you can boil on the fire. How long do you boil the water for? I was told boiling only kills the bacteria not the virus. Are there virus in the river water or...

Re: Is it ok to eat quite a lot of beef fat?

I prefer Pork, it has a higher fat content and the taste of the fat is unbeatable. Thailand- is one of the best countries to buy it right on the street. I fly into Bangkok next week. Yumm.steam-roast-pork-belly__hero.jpg Please whoever you are don't post a picture like that because it's sort of lik...

Re: Is it ok to eat quite a lot of beef fat?

The old style British Beef pie or Chicken pie or Kidney pie use beef fat in their pastry crust don't they? They taste really good. The pastry of traditional Engish meat pies was made with lard, which is pork fat,or with dripping, which is beef fat. (I'm vegetarian myself ) I am a vegetarian when si...

Re: Is it ok to eat quite a lot of beef fat?

Beef fat contains a whopping 1849 calories/cup (208g), so it will take a large amount of very vigorous exercise to use that up. A balanced diet contains 20–35% of total calories from fats. Depending on your bodysize/ type, a brisk walk uses roughly 200 calories in 40 minutes. Here's some data on ca...

Is it ok to eat quite a lot of beef fat?

Hi members of this forum, is beef fat bad for your health? Other than the cholesterol in the beef fat what else is bad? I think if you consume a lot of beef fat but not doing any work or exercise then it would be bad for you. But if you walk a lot and do a lot of work it will not be bad for your hea...
