Re: Are Mahayana monks allowed to marry?

just keep delighting the world with the enlightenment you convey! Of course. And for you, keep learning from whoever teacher gives it to you harder. You'll sure need tons of "enlightenment" from him. Honestly, I am not inclined towards teachers, I never have been, because the Buddha is my only teac...

Re: Are Mahayana monks allowed to marry?

With all these women around him how could he resists even if he wants to. This seems to be unskillful, leading towards or depending on wrong views. It's not harmless to you or others. It doesn't seem to leads towards liberation; such views can be given up. Please, examine this. I don't get what you...

Re: Are Mahayana monks allowed to marry?

So this guy in the video Sakyong is having a good life I think. So much support from the community. He has a recent sexual misconduct scandal. https://tricycle.org/trikedaily/shambhala-investigation/ There are quite a few threads about that over at DWM. I am not surprised at all. With all these wome...

Re: Are Mahayana monks allowed to marry?

The person in the video is Sakyong MIpham Rinpoche; the sangha he heads is called Shambhala. "Rinpoche" in Tibetan means "precious one" and the Sakyong is a lama (teacher), not a monk. Lamas are permitted to marry, Tibetan Buddhist monks do not marry; I'm not sure if monks in other Mahayana groups ...

Re: Is Cannabis oil available in pharmcy in Thailand?

I don't know about the availability of cannabis there, but just wanted to mention or recommend getting treated for the hemorrhoids. See a doctor or clinic about that. It is typically from chronic constipation. Foods high in fat and too much protein tend to cause constipation. Too many cooks spoil t...

Re: Are monks allowed to read books in their kuti?

If I decide to ordain could you help me to do so? I will be arriving in Bangkok on the 25 of February (this month). If you decide to get ordained at Wat Rampoeng, I doubt you'll need any help from me. The wat has ordained lots of foreigners over the years and Ajahn Suphan and his team are experienc...

Re: Are monks allowed to read books in their kuti?

I know some very good and reknown Ajahns who read a lot of books, even fantasy etc, but their wisdom is well established and they need to understand people's needs and lay life to be able to teach them well. So don't worry about that, libraries in monasteries are very rich in all sorts of books. It...

than being slim and beautiful Good posting. But it is nothing wrong being beautiful for a lay person. It is not a question of "nothing wrong being beautiful for a lay person", if you are not mentally prepared in other words not following the teaching of Buddha closely you will suffer when you grow ...

Re: Diabetic problem in ordination

I hope someone who has experience as monk in temple in Thailand could answer my questions. I have diabetic symptoms can I still ordain as a monk. Problem is I get hungry very fast so having one meal a day in temple would starve me and I would feel miserable. Yes, there's no Vinaya objection to diab...

Re: Is Buddhism for the rich and intellectual?

If you have a good life and well provided for you could spend your time on contemplation. You could have a cup of hot coffee in front of your fire place and a good book on Abhidhamma or Psychology of Buddhism. Many working people don't really have such luxury by the time they finished their job the...
