Re: Copyright on the Dhamma

And as you know, ATI offers Ven. Ñāṇamoli's translation of The Path of Purification for free download. And BPS offers many free publications in their Online Library . All things considered, there is a significant number of Pāli texts freely available in English translation. Yes, this is true... but...

Re: Copyright on the Dhamma

So, who is going to pay for all of this? That's a bit of a ridiculous question, considering that the majority of the Buddhist world can and does pay for the writing, translating, editing, publishing, and distribution of millions of copies of dhamma books every day. The dearth of good English transl...

Just another update, now the DPR can export html files from sections or even groups of sections, and can analyze Pali text from a webpage as well.

There are over 1,000,000 bhikkhus in the world... quantity ≠ quality.

Buddhist Q&A Forum (ala StackExchange)

Just wanted to pop in and pass along this link in case anyone here is interested in starting a Buddhist Q&A forum. There are plans in the works for adding a StackExchange for Buddhism, and they only need 16 more participants to meet the quota for acceptance. If you're interested, here's the link: ht...

Thanks all... actually my monk's birthday is Dec. 4th; I'll be 10 this year. I'm not here much anymore, other things in my almsbowl (i.e. on my plate). Re: Exact meaning of "Khīyati nopacīyati, evam so caratī sato"?

Hi Started, Well, Bhikkhu Bodhi's comments indicated that the Commentary suggests that it could refer to things other than dukkha: Khiyati no paciyati. No subject is provided but Spk suggests both suffering and the various defilements would be appropriate. Since I've only a sketchy knowledge of Pal...

Re: Chanting booklet used by our temple (pdf)

The chants at the end starting with 'Orgassa Orgassa...' are chants in Northern Thai to make aspirations before doing a meditation session for about ten minutes together....followed by the dedication and sharing of merits obtained. Thanks very much Bhante, the new version is great. That'd be great. Not sure if this helps - on http://www.tipitaka.org/romn/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; they put both the AS and vibhavini in the Abhidhamma Tika section, though it seems it would make more sense to put it in the A...

I'm not sure wher...

Re: Agganna Sutta

Interesting, and I'm sorry to go off topic, but perhaps this will help correct what has been a theme throughout this thread - the bit about the contraction that is supposedly mentioned in the Agganna Sutta. The Vism. says this about the time between the destruction of the universe by fire and the re...
