Re: Mindfulness - hurdles while concentrating

Friends  My question here is, should I persevere till I reach an empty state where I am only aware of my breathing, with not even a single thought, feeling, or memory popping up ? Is this the goal of anapanasati? ns. Yes. I fully understand what you mean. Also try not to suppress thoughts, y...

Re: Does the posture matter?

I find its best to sit without back support or on the floor. I use this as a tool to "wake" me up when I fall asleep, the posture becomes unstable and would fall off balance. The body sends a reminder that I am off drifting again.. lying down in my personal opinion is for advance meditator who is ab...

Re: Listening to music generates demerit

Depends on the kind of music. There is music design to help concentration and get it down to Alpha wave. I am not too sure if listening to music that promote peace generate demerit, in fact, it helps some busy people calm down be at peace.

Re: Seeing White Light in Meditation

... does the nimitta have an affective experience like the one described by pride? Can you link to any threads or info that? Here's what my teacher, Ajahn Brahm, says about nimitta. It also matches with my personal experiences, which are much the same as Pride042. https://www.dhammatalks.net/Books/...

Re: Seeing White Light in Meditation

I felt and not the heat and the light, it was as if you were having hundreds and hundreds of orgasms at the same time, in a very short span of time. This whole experience, since the appearance of the white light until the moment I had to stop, had the duration of about 6/7 secs. Love your analogy o...

Re: My take on anapanasati/meditation practices

Well, Its taken us here (reborn as a human). There is more to do.. perhaps another few eons more to go or a few more lifetimes or maybe this life!. The conscious mind can re-wire the subconscious mind by repetition, which I came to appreciate it as most suttas repeat sentences over and over again. T...

Re: A question about ego death

Good post all of you. I am a beginner here, so what should we do when we are dreaming? Dreaming experience can be more vivid than actual life (all beginners know that). What can one do? - Thanks in advance.

Re: Common problems during meditation

Hi  Must we purposely try to create an experience like jhana just to avoid boredom? Some insights on this would be helpful. Thanks. Well, even access concentration produce very good feeling as well, that would wipe out the boredom. Do you feel any pleasure like happiness, joy, state of calm,...

Re: Controlling emotions vs controlling thoughts

One of the ways I find pretty effective is to carry the object of meditation around as often as possible. For example, lining up 2hrs in DMV or supermarket, instead of daydreaming like 99% of the people there or go to iphone, one goes into breathing or loving-kindness as the meditation object while ...

Re: A question about ego death

My problem with this is that { and forgive the seemingly juvenile question } while there is no 'self,' no 'me' here - why is it that whatever I am, { eternal vastness, consciousness, etc. } I am still 'separated' and experiencing 'reality' through this very specific perspective? Or simply, if there...

Re: How do people know about rebirth?

Today, I am 44, I am not the same as 4. My body, bones, mind, and thoughts are not the same, yet they are the same. I just witness a rebirth. Yesterday, I suddenly woke up in the middle of my dream while I am still sleeping. I am aware that I am dreaming, with a new body, a different person in a dif...
