Re: If you are a monk. Do you eat anything after noon?

Hi, As the title. Do you eat anything after noon if you are a monk? Thanks It's extremely common throughout SE Asia for monastics to eat after noon. Temples where it would be prohibited are certainly abnormal from my experience. It's one of the rules the modern Sangha by majority does not follow pa...

Re: Vaccination and ordination

I have been reading about these new vaccinations and how they will contain animal rna, and may bond with your genetic sequence effectively genetically modifying you in some animal human hybrid technically. I believe one question for ordination is are you human? Can this effect ones ability to ordai...

Re: Tourist Visa and Sri Lanka ordination

Good to hear from you, UD. Thank you for this informative post. If you don't mind, I'm going to merge the original into the "Visa" thread started by Venerable "BKh". That thread is "sticky" so it will remain at the top of the page. Sure, please do. When is appropriate ...

Re: Obstacles to going forth

A Bhikkhu is traditionally understood to be a homeless wanderer. Going forth is going forth from the life of a householder into homelessness. Yes there are many possible temples to stay at but at the end of the day I don't own any of those and I am able to stay there because of the support of others...

Re: Hi, i’m looking for some information about monastic life

Hi, folks. 😊 Skip the first few paragraphs to get straight to the questions. I suppose a little backstory is likely helpful or possibly interesting. I started meditating what I consider hard-core about 2.5 years ago, and the way it has been changing my life is so beautiful. Truly, everything that I...

Re: Obstacles to going forth

Salutations in the Triple Gem to all sādhu-jana(s), I have a few lay acquaintacs that are teetering on the brink of going forth but are still unable to break through some barriers they have in their mind about the benefits of ordination over lay life or example. Often times the contents of the conv...

Re: Longevity in robes

I believe a large part of it is being able to work out a Monastic lifestyle that fits your practice and mind. In general one of the things that can happen is getting stuck within one organization or following one teacher that actually you aren't comfortable with or able to develop under. In Monastic...

Re: I’m done with laylife.

Yes, I understand privelage vs birthright. Nuns have banded together and sought out equitable treatment. Obviously they were not pleased with things as they were, and I feel the changes are for the better, and would like to see complete equity regardless of sex. Ok so you are suggesting sick mental...

Re: Monks and internet forums

The internet is a breeding ground for the five hindrances and forums especially so (ergo my reduced participation). Is it beneficial for monks or nuns to become embroiled in Dhamma slanging matches? Such goings on are part and parcel for us laypeople (unfortunately so) but should a monk abandon the...

Re: Monastics protesting social injustice

I am pretty new to this forum, having been reading some of it here and there and stumbled upon this thread. It is very interesting, the differing opinions. Can someone help me understand the participants here, it seems there are several monks on this thread? They are monastics who have left the wor...

Re: Monastics protesting social injustice

Oh, I'm not really accusing you of anything. I'm encouraging you to be mindful of these tendencies and rather than react to them as a personal accusation simply consider these modes of mind and the dangers that they represent not only in oneself but also within a society. I also hope to find the dha...

Re: Monastics protesting social injustice

It is simply (as I said) "interesting", since on one hand you advance "social justice" issues (in contrast to Dhammic justice issues, or blind justice issues) through your focus on race and race relations (i.e. the Cultural Marxist claptrap that others are somehow accountable fo...

Re: Ordination for women in mainland Europe

Please be aware of the difficulties for women ordaining and be prepared for them. For men there are a large large amount of temples and support after becoming a Monastic. For women there are far fewer. I wish you the best of luck in your endeavors. What difficulties are you referring to, Chanh Dao?...

Re: Monastics protesting social injustice

I am very thankful for everyone participating and it's an opportunity to value community as all the individuals involved here. I for one had no idea about the political leanings of the admin of the server, nor was I aware of the approach to interacting with Monastics whose views the admin doesn't ag...
