Re: Keep away from Mahamuna sect in Sri Lanka?
Have you read Abhidhamma yourself? If yes which book? Did you understand all the teaching in Abhidhamma? It's an ongoing study. Right now I am interested in the Patthana. I am studying it with the help of Rerukane Chandawimala Maha Thero's Patthan Maha pakarana Sannaya . And of course there are tal...

@SarathW Before you get all the Abhidhamma/Commentary nescients on your head, please listen to the first video in the following playlist(Which is an audiobook of Ven Gnanananda Thero's translation of the Dhammapada). You can listen for your self the Venerables introduction to this book and his views...

Re: Are 'Focusing' Meditations Wrong?
Problems with language.
Let me use 'focus' in a more positive sense.
Focus means having the freedom to engage in the work at hand, explore where it leads.
Focus means collecting the dispersed mental energies in to a powerful force.
Focus means the nature of an undistracted mind.

Re: Retrofuturist's Brief Sutta-Based Refutation of Abhidhamma
Greetings, Can you please provide pali terms for what's highlighted below. Sutta Reponse: Never in the Suttas are materiality referred to as "dhammas". Dhammas are phenomena, whereas materiality is noumena. Instead, materiality is represented in the Sutta via mahabhuta (great elements). A...

Greetings, Unfortunately the redirection did not make clear to me your wording in Argument #1 See the paragraph starting with the words "As I said..." Metta, Paul. :) That's not what I'm asking right now. Just the pali terms for what's highlighted below. Sutta Reponse: Never in the Suttas...

Greetings Srilankaputra, Common Abhidhamma Argument #1 - Mentality and materiality are paramattha dhammas (i.e. ultimate dhammas) Sutta Reponse: Never in the Suttas are materiality referred to as "dhammas". Dhammas are phenomena, whereas materiality is noumena. Instead, materiality is rep...

Re: Is it possible that we may be practicing Vipassana without knowing it?
I like this word 'bhāvanā' or development. Conventionally speaking, if your trials are making you stronger, this is bhāvanā. Just a little fun fact. In traditional medicine, for some preparations, they take the juice of plants and put it out in the sun, so that the unnecessary stuff evaporates away...

Re: Retrofuturist's Brief Sutta-Based Refutation of Abhidhamma
What i am asking is where does these phenemona occur? In the human mind? I don't consider "where" to be a particular useful means of assessing Dhamma, but in the mind is as good an answer as any, since that's where the avijja is. Ah, now we finally cut to the chase. I don't know if you re...

Re: Retrofuturist's Brief Sutta-Based Refutation of Abhidhamma
Greetings, And what is the sutta term for noumena? For all intents and purposes it is mahabhuta, since they are the great elements recognised in this Dhamma. I am unsure of whether the Buddha introduced a specific technical term directly corresponding to the noumenic quality of the mahabhuta. How i...

Thanks. Few questions,retrofuturist wrote: ↑Sat Jun 12, 2021 6:26 am Greetings,
Very much so, hence their usage, and my comment to Sarath above that the rūpa of nama-rupa is always rupasañña (phenomena) and not materiality (nounemena)
Metta,
Paul.
And what is the sutta term for noumena?
What is it that perceives Rupa?
