Re: Transliterating Lao Script Pali
Thanks for the suggestion. I forgot to check what Vinodh had been doing. His program converts "ທຸຕິຍັມປິ ທັມມັງ ສະລະນັງ ຄັດສາມິ" to "dutiñampi dammaṅ salanaṅ gad̈sāmi". I currently have that as (if I do it word by word) as "dutiyampi dammaṃ salanaṃ gassāmi", as current...

Re: Script Converter
Hello! Just used your tool in a real world situation and it worked perfectly. A suggestion for a future feature... I often need to use the original script and the transliteration in a tri-linear situation, as would, I suspect, many others. If there was a way to output the original and transliterate...

Re: Script Converter
The placement of the horizontal line in this table is confusing to me. It makes sense at the very top of the table, but as you scroll down, it makes it look like the row of Sinhala letters applies to the letters above, not below. A larger space above the Sinhala row would help, but I'd just opt for...

Script Converter
Hello! It's been a while I posted here. I've been working on a nifty tool to converter between 60+ Indic scripts including Brahmi, Kharoshthi, Devanagari, Khmer, Sinhala and other romanization formats. http://aksharamukha.appspot.com/#/converter Also, you can view some sample texts in all of the scr...

Re: Does exist life after death for Buddhism
Buddhists generally dislike the term reincarnation [...] Western Buddhists that is :quote: I presume the Indic term for rebirth is either "Punarbhava" [again-become] or "Punarjanma"[again-born]. I often wonder how English-speaking Buddhists (subtly) distinguish between the terms...

Hey plwk Where is the rest of the "debate"? It ends without the debates with the chief disciples and the buddha. I'm curious as to where the other debates are going. I followed the link, but all it appeared was the homepage. By the way, poor knowledge and debate skills by Nilakeshi... The...

Re: Conjuncts in Pali
Hi Bhante, Yeah. The question should have been replaced as " which of these combinations need to be represented by special characters in Sinhalese script". Sinhala script represents conjuncts in Pali in a peculiar way. It just systematically fuses the consonants by making them "touch ...

Conjuncts in Pali
Hi All,
I would like to know the list of possible conjunct consonants that are possible in Pali (e.g) kk, kkh, tt, ttha, mp etc.
The GNU Free font is being modified to support Pali written in Sinhala script. I just wanna make sure, all possible Pali conjuncts are supported.

Buddha resting with His head on a knee
Hi All, I am frequently coming across a peculiar posture of the Buddha, who is resting by placing His head on the knee such as below: http://www.thebuddhasface.co.uk/ekmps/shops/thebuddhasface/images/red-gold-thai-buddha-resting-head-on-knee-16cm-x-12cm-1505-p.jpg I want to know whether this depicti...

Re: How Theravada is Theravada? Exploring Buddhist Identities
In the past, people referred simply to "the religion" or "the teachings". The label Buddhism was invented by Western scholars when they wanted to compare it to other religions. Not exactly. Reference to "Bauddha Mata" are rampant across ancient Indian texts. The word &...

I particularly liked the copyright notice :-) Even so, whatever is well-spoken, All of it is the word of the blessed one, The arahant, the perfectly and completely awakened one. Wholly derived from that is what we and others say. http://www.varado.org/front-copyright-notice.php" onclick="w...

Re: Majjhima Nikaya in Brahmi script
I am sorry to say, that the Brahmi used is plain wrong in that text. The Conjuncts are never even used !! Sabbaasava Suttam is written as "Sababaasava sutatam" and so on ! The font which they had used "Imperial Brahmi" doesn't support Conjunct Brahmi. So it seems, they just conve...
