Re: Zombie Pigs

Do you know the actual, canonical definition of "death"? According to the suttas, when exactly is a being dead? "Now what is aging and death? Whatever aging, decrepitude, brokenness, graying, wrinkling, decline of life-force, weakening of the faculties of the various beings in this or that group of...

Re: Jellyfish and Buddha

:namaste: The Japanese jellyfish does not die. In fact, it reverse ages. No aging, no death. Doesn't this contradict a basic principle of Buddhism - that all things are subject to aging, death, etc. :anjali: According to Buddhist teaching, this Samsara never ends unless you attain Nibbana. If all t...

Re: Heartbeat relating to jhana

I imagine that would be accompanied by some bodily struggle. In that moment i had no urge to breath nor any thought that i should breathe. Perhaps my breathing was imperceptible due to the incident hijacking all my attention. I think the best thing, if it comes up again, is just to go with it haha....

Re: Heartbeat relating to jhana

Nirodha does not always mean cessation. It also mean restraint. For one who has attained the fourth Jhāna, in & out breathing has been restrained (nirodha), allayed (vūpasantā), and abated (paṭippassaddhā). SN 36.11 RTFM (F as in Fine). :) . . of course, if you change the meaning of a word, it can ...

Re: Religious nones are the new #1

i'm not sure atheists and agnostics tend to be more tolerant to buddhists, because often they believe something like that buddhism is a philosophy instead of a religion, which is untrue. if you reveal you are a buddhist who believes in rebirth, heaven and hell, devas, levitation, remembering past li...
