Do we currently have anyone wanting it to exist and not exist, or anyone wanting it to neither exist nor not not exist?

Re: Thoughts and Suffering

one more: sound is a thorn to concentration - it interrupts the flow of thoughts for example. I think it depends how intrusive the sound is, though I don't have a problem at all with natural sounds like waves breaking, or wind in the trees. With the yappy dog next door, my irritation is mostly with...

Re: Trump and the NHS

This is worrying. There’s a rumour that he is going to use trade talks to force the NHS has to pay more for life saving drugs. Hope this is fake news. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-42943768 I've heard the US wants a share of private health provision in the UK ( the NHS commissions quite a l...

Re: Thoughts and Suffering

I was thinking of DO, where craving ( and by implication, aversion ) arise in dependence upon feeling, and feeling arises in dependence upon contact via one of the sense-bases ( including mind ). So here there is aversion arising in dependence upon a mildly unpleasant feeling arising "at" the mind-...

Why then do I get irritated with the yappy dog barking next door? ...the irritation is through the mind-door which arises after the sensedoor... Anyway, I am too busy trying to unravel what the Buddha said without trying to delve into the deep and dark depths of Krishnamurti's mind as well. That is Krishnamurti's job, not mine. ;) :goodpost: And of course this is General Theravada discussion, so all the Krishnamurti stuff is :offtopic: here...

What is it that makes the two states related/connected/comparable? the idea of a self (the agent who experience and who witnessed/got affected by the change). Are you saying that with no self-view there is no experience of change? Logically, there can't be So how does this relate to Buddhist practi...

Re: If mind = brain

I think experience is just what we notice . We can choose to notice different aspects of experience. I agree with the first part of your statement, but the second part is hypothetical. When i say hypothetical, i don't mean its right or wrong or whether it exists or does not exist. It has a function...

Re: If mind = brain

It depends how we define "experience", but I think I see the distinction you're making. For me the point is about choosing to place attention on particular aspects of experience. Experience is what is known (past tense). Even if you see a phenomena for the first time, you would declare that you don...
