Re: Need details

Didn't several bhikkhu who weren't anagami reach Nirodha to attain Nibbana ? I don't care whether the sutta/abhidhamma consider them as different attainments, they do not prove that they're different, they just say they are. So the fact that no real explanation is given about their difference probab...

Re: can you be atheist and theravada buddhist?

I arleady told you that karma is the exact thing as judgement from a creator god. Karma doesn't have anything to do with the core doctrine of the Theravada, which is that craving makes rebirth. Believing in karma is the same as believing in a creator god. Reality is empty of morality, morality was i...

Re: can you be atheist and theravada buddhist?

Gangs ? Do you really think that every European pertains to a gang ?

I never made any offering, and I certainly do not follow an ethical code.

Anyway why would a wild man have to make offerings or follow an ethical code ? Do you even know what these words mean ?

Re: Need details

I don't believe in the Abhidhamma in case you wondered, and I don't believe in the Theravada either. There are things that I believe in, like the idea of an almost non-percipient state (the 8th jhana) or the fact that craving causes stress, but I certainly do not believe in rebirth and fairies (whic...

Re: can you be atheist and theravada buddhist?

You can't tell me that it's not related to religion, if your doctrine tells you that you have to bow/make offerings/follow a certain ethical code then it's a religion. By that definition, what isn't a religion? Is there any place in the world where one doesn't have to make offerings/follow a certai...

Re: Need details

So no detailed description then, just the standard depiction. The Brahmaa plane of the 4th jhaana possesses 2 planes, one of which is said to be inhabited by beings that made their consciousness cease through meditation during their previous life. I didn't come up with it. Since this goes in total c...

Re: Nirodha, could it be a fake attainment ?

Calm down, I didn't say that Gombrich or any other indologist completely threwed out the 4 noble truths, though they have theorized that some other concepts/practices likely didn't exist during the Buddha's lifetime. The thing about the 4 noble truths is that, apparently, they weren't the core of th...

Re: can you be atheist and theravada buddhist?

When I talk about rebith it's either to explain why it's impossible or how it works according to the Theravaada. The thing is, the concept of karma comes from the Vedic religion, not only that but all monotheistic religions use the concept of judgement based on morality and blind faith... so it's no...

Re: Nirodha, could it be a fake attainment ?

Like I said, the ones who were the first to threw out of the window the 4 noble truths etc are the buddhologists, and they know your religion better than you do. Who are these "Buddhologists"? What is the status of their alleged views regarding the 4 Noble Truths? Do you mean that they have proven ...

Re: can you be atheist and theravada buddhist?

You can't be an atheist if you believe in supernatural things that don't exist like rebirth, magic, fairies etc. Why not? Atheism is lack of belief in a God, or a number of gods. Providing one does not conceive of rebirth, magic and fairies to be gods or produced by gods, then I can't see why you t...

Like I said, the ones who were the first to threw out of the window the 4 noble truths etc are the buddhologists, and they know your religion better than you do. Theravaada isn't buddhism, it's just a religion invented by people who heard about the Buddha but never met him, hundred of years had gone...

By the way I'm pretty sure that concentrating too much on a mental visualization can cause hallucinations... perhaps those could explain the abhiññā.

Re: Antinatalism

If a Theravāda country had had a sudden development like the one in Western Europe, religion would've turned into some kind of ethical and atheistic antinatalism.

Re: Nirodha, could it be a fake attainment ?

Oh I forgot the most important... the 4th jhāna (which is never described despite being literally the most important thing in the Theravāda) was probably invented by elder bhikkhu in order to keep the younger ones under their control. They made nibbāna an abhiññā, thus putting it on the same level a...
