Re: PreBirth Experience (PBE),Remembering Birth,Past Lives

Some people having near death experience report beings made of light coming to "guide them" across - I think that sometimes they recognize these beings as departed family members, or as Jesus/Bodhisattva etc...I think the critical point is that kamma is what is creating the major part of our experi...

Re: PreBirth Experience (PBE),Remembering Birth,Past Lives

Well yeah. But this is still a prison, if you get out through practice you don't have to come back. The buddha talks like in terms of rebirth it is advatageous to be born a human in this world. You say that "guides" force us here. Is it that they know better then us what would benefit us? If "guide...

Re: PreBirth Experience (PBE),Remembering Birth,Past Lives

It is good to note that although you may have pre birth memories, they can only be limited. We have had limitless experiences before this life and I don't think it would be possible to remember the whole scope of the experiences. I do see how having such memories could help one have a spiritual ori...

PreBirth Experience (PBE),Remembering Birth,Past Lives

Hello, I have been thinking about Prebirth experiences for the past few days and find myself struggling to fit it in with Buddhism. I found a website where people were posting their accounts and it very similar to mine. I've never actually doubted my memories it wasn't vague. But when i read other pe...

Re: How much entertainment should we allow?

I'm also trying to give up tv and entertainments. What i found through my own practice is by practicing meditation i experience a more refine or subtle kind of fulfillment and watching movies or entertainment can sometimes feel rather gross, heavy and like dragging, tiring type of sensation. Sometime...

Re: Developing Nimittas as in Visuddhimagga ?

Buddhist seem to have two different interpretations of Jhana. One which requires a nimitta and the other that doesn't. Its really up to you to choose what to practice. They are quite different practices to each other so the instructions are very different. In the Pa Auk Sayadaw tradition which i foll...

Re: Is it possible to enjoy the five sensual feelings once you experience Jhana?

I don't think one can like RIGHT after Jhana. Jhana are really refined states of mind engaging in sexual activity right after is a bit too coarse. Its possible to engage in sensual activities but i don't think one would truly enjoy it. Activities like even listening to the sound of music feels very ,...

Re: need helpl pls - from Buddhist Prayers, Mantras

Dear Balan, I know you asked for a Buddhist perspective but the most important thing you can do for yourself is Please visit your local GP ( doctor, medic). You seem to be describing the signs and symptoms of psychosis.Let the doctor diagnose the problem. After you know what the medical problem is then...

Brahmaviharas as a main meditation Practice?

Hi, I'm thinking of changing my practice from Anapanasati to Brahmaviharas.I am just curious has anyone ever taken Brahmavihara as their main object? What were the results. I'm interested in long term brahmavihara practice.Like for the rest of this life.If this is your meditation object not as a sec...

Re: Detailed instruction - working with breath nimitta

This is a helpful article.Thank you very much.I like the example about looking at cars passing a street and viewing them as cars as a whole not not the colour or manufacturer. I'm not sure if you can call it a nimitta if it moves around. Its very distracting.i don't think you should look at a nimitta...

Why Practice The Four Protective Meditation?

Hi all, Do you know why we have to practice the Four Protective Meditation? 1.Metta bhavana. 2.Repulsiveness. 3.Contemplation of the Buddha. 4.Contemplation of death. What happens when we advance in the practice? Is there something destabilizing that happens (in terms of not-self) and we need these ...
