Take drugs if you like, but please don't believe the nonsense you think while you're tripping.
I no longer consume drug or drink. I have 138 days clean and sober today. A lot of the stuff I believed while intoxicated is incomprehensible to me now.

When did you learn the significance of connection?

When did you realize you were part of a bigger picture beyond the five senses? When did life surprise you with a simple yet profound realization? I was sitting in a field, paranoid thoughts from an intentional altered state of consciousness, and my eyes focused on one blade of grass. This was a larg...

Re: May someone tell me who this is?

Now the question is; What do I do with the amulet if I don't believe in it? Pass it on to someone else even though I do not believe in it? This goes against my current understanding of morals. Then I have the conflicting thought of disposing of a gift.

Buddhism & Amulets?

Greetings. A monk reccently gave me an amulet to wear around my neck. He said it was a disciple of Buddha. I started a thread asking for more information on who it was. I was told by somebody that amulets are a scam. So, my purpose for this thread is to seek information, experience, and beliefs from...

May someone tell me who this is?

This was a gift from a monk at a temple recently. He said it will bring good luck and help with addiction.

Re: Wat Chaimongkol? Gyuto? Theravada?

I'm feeling drawn towards spreading Buddhism. Not by force, but by example, and being able to teach what I learn when someone asks. I want to follow something universal and tangible to all. I feel that this type of path I'm looking to follow can benefit more than less. This is my observation. I hope...

Wat Chaimongkol? Gyuto? Theravada?

There is a Monastery in Fairfield called "Wat Chaimongkol," and one in Richmond called "Gyuto Foundation." I still don't know my path as a Buddhist, so I am trying to figure things out and learn. I feel drawn to both places of practice, but don't know if they are of the Theravada tradition. These ar...

It is not necessarily abandoning attachment but relating to people & family in the right way; for both yourself & for them. In time, it could be possible your example of conduct leads to your father changing his way of relating. Best wishes. :)
Thank you

As you appear to have learned, on a social level, its important to have Buddhist morals/ethics guide your life rather than any sense of loyalty to dysfunctional family.
Yes, I feel the same way, yet sometimes I feel guilty for abandonning attachment to family.
