"Venerable Sujato"

Who's that then? What's the agenda that was mentioned?

Is it a sectarian thing?

Re: There can be only one!

Mm, yes, some translations are not so accurate. But now other thoughts are coming to mind. If the Buddha's voice can be heard throughout a world system (galaxy?)... can he also be physically there to teach too? Is he present as a living, embodied teacher to all the beings on all the planets i...

There can be only one!

AN 1:277
“It is impossible, mendicants, it cannot happen for two perfected ones, fully awakened Buddhas to arise in the same solar system at the same time. But it is possible for just one perfected one, a fully awakened Buddha, to arise in one solar system.”

🤔 Why is that then... why impossible?

Re: Arhant

Hello, why is an Arhant not a Buddha? Thank you. :buddha1: :anjali: All Arhants are necessarily Buddhas and all Buddhas are necessarily Arhants. Not all Arhants are Sammāsaṁbuddhas. A Sammāsaṁbuddha is a special class of Buddha that is very rare in the world. According to mainstream Theravāda, Gota...

Re: Arhant

That's interesting, thank you.

Do you happen to have any references for the scripture... I have a copies of the Anguttara Nikaya and the Majjhima Nikaya at home.

Re: Secular Buddhism

Being kind and loving will take you to heaven, it doesn't do harm, but it doesn't get you out of Samsara either....The same with secular Buddhism.... They don't do harm as such, but it approaches the practice with a fixed view of what reality is and of what a Buddha is. That view will block their po...

Quakers

Hi, I've been looking into the Quakers recently. There seems to be a variety of different sorts of Quakers... The ones I'm curious about are the 'unprogrammed' Quakers... They don't have ministers or a creed, and their services are conducted mainly in silence. They practice a kind of 'silent waiting...

Help!

Hi.
I'm wondering... for Buddhists and Theravada Buddhism I'm particular, are there any beings, deities, spirits to pray to or invoke if you are in some sort of trouble?
I've heard 'paritta'? chanting can help with some things... What is that? How does it help? Thank you :)
