Buddhist quote reference

Hi, I came across a quote, something like:
"That which you concieve is always other than the truth... "
Or something like that! Does anybody know the exact quote and scriptural reference?

Thank you in advance.
Cheers, thanks, ta.

Re: Lord Darth Vader

I think he spent a lot of time trying to focus all his energy into his helmet... so more of a new-age neo-tantra thing going on... like Sting.

Re: How to handle a beggar want to stay in your temple?

I would guess that the homeless person would have to follow the rules that the monks follow, attend services, and work as the monks do . If he is willing to do that, get the guy a robe and hope he stays.

Re: Why there is no God

When the Buddhists say no-soul, they mean that there isn't the Hindu concept of soul 'Atman', like a little piece of God or something Eternal that is the eternal core of our being. For Buddhists we do sort of have a self on a relative level but not in that 'eternal soul' context. For Buddhists the i...

Defilements etc. Somebody Stop Me!

I'm sure this is a common theme here, i.e., knowing what not to do but somehow being unable to stop myself. I've been listening to some online talks by Ajahn Amaro about dependent origination and how this can be used to understand the sequence of events that lead from ignorance to suffering. It seem...

The Buddha himself left his wife and child to follow the path.

That is helpful. I have a copy of the Majjhima-Nikaya arriving by post this week so will be able to study this carefully. Thank you.

Where is Buddha now? Does his mind stream continue?

Is Buddha dead? Or does something continue? Does he exist in another place?

What are your thoughts and what scriptures would help me to understand this question?

Thank you.

Re: When is it ok to lie?

In coming to the answer to a question like this it is important to remember how brief and fragile any life is. Also remember the countless rebirths we have all had, zillions! All with their own kind of suffering. Very very rarely, almost impossibly rarely we get a human life and then we are soon plu...

Negative spirits/demons etc.

What does Buddhism have to say about negative/malign spirits or beings? I know in Tibet there is the view that 'Dons' - non-human beings cause many illnesses. Does the same idea exist in Theravada cultures?
Has could these beings affect us?
What can we do about them?

Karma outcomes

Hi,
I know Karma is not a simplistic topic, but does anybody have any information on the kinds of typical outcomes a person might expect from particular misdeeds?
E.g. If you are a bully you might get bullied yourself... type of thing.

Thank you.

Re: The Ethics of Non Action (General Theravada version)

To me, the most important aspect of Karma is how we are training our mind. There is no cosmic 'judge', it is more a matter of conditioning our habits. Surely indifference and ignorance, as well as willful ignorance are negative mind states? So it is 'bad karma', in the sense of how we are training o...
