Re: Sinhala language

Yes thank you for letting me know. Just to repeat, the controversial sources are Nirapekshathvaye maga Waharaka ධර්මයයි ඔබයි I am aware of the teachings of Nirapekshathvaye maga, I find content to extremely misleading and dangerous. Unfortunately I cant edit out these three. But thanks for letting m...

Re: Will Westerners ever catch Buddhism ?

The Westerners who have caught Buddhism appears to have caught it well enough and a lot better than most Buddhists in Asian countries. Not only that there are great Theravada Buddhist nuns/monks of Western origin but there are great lay Buddhist teachers too (eg. teachers of the Insight Meditation S...

Re: Clear Comprehending

Clearly Comprehending (Sampajanna) means to see things as they truly are and not how they appear to be. This is to see all things as impermanent. Usually, this word appears after Sati (Mindfulness). If we just had Mindfulness without the Clear Comprehension then one could say that we can enjoy whate...

Re: New Suttta Central Site is Live

I wonder if there will be a function to download the content of the entire website in pdf format. If not, then it would be great to see this function available in the future. So far I know some sections of the Pali canon are available for download.

Re: Gautama a.k.a. Buddha abandoning his wife and child - was it wrong?

Please be aware that the commonly accepted version of the history is that Prince Siddhartha walked away without the consent of Princess Yasodara. But alternate version of the history say that the Prince Siddhartha did discuss about this with Princess Yasodara and they came to an agreement. That ver...

Re: Gautama a.k.a. Buddha abandoning his wife and child - was it wrong?

Remember that the life of the Buddha was an example not like any other. Looking at the life of the Buddha helps to answer so many questions that might come to our mind when learning the Dhamma (the teaching). Let's say that Prince Siddhartha left home before he got married and became a Buddha. A com...

Re: Gautama a.k.a. Buddha abandoning his wife and child - was it wrong?

We need to remember that the life of the Siddhartha Bodhisatta was an example. The life it self helps to answer so many questions which arise in the follower. Him leaving his home, leaving his wife and baby behind was an act of renunciation. Lets create a scenario in our minds thinking that the Sidd...

Re: Criticism of Islam

Its a shame that anyone who brings up any rational criticism of Islamic teachings gets silenced by getting names called upon such as 'neo-conservative' assuming that the only reason why people criticise Islam is all because of global politics when there are plenty of other reasons. I wander what suc...

Re: Condensed version of the teachings within texts

I would like to see a new Buddhist council being set up and taking out the essence of the different sections of Pali Canon and putting them together in a logical and practical pathway which can be used also like a stepping stone to reading the actual Pali Canon.

Re: Compassion in Theravada

I know the main post is about compassion but since some members have touched on the topic of the broader category of Brahmaviharas I want to say a few words. Apologies to anyone if I am appearing as if I am telling them to suck eggs. Metta (Loving-Kindness) is like a foundation of the Brahmaviharas....

Re: Compassion in Theravada

Further to what I have mentioned I want to stress the importance of the method element as well as the truth element in Buddhism. Some Buddhist schools tend to be more shifted towards the truth element of teachings while others tend to be more shifted towards the method element of teachings. Based on...
