Re: Condensed version of the teachings within texts

I would like to see a new Buddhist council being set up and taking out the essence of the different sections of Pali Canon and putting them together in a logical and practical pathway which can be used also like a stepping stone to reading the actual Pali Canon.

Re: Compassion in Theravada

I know the main post is about compassion but since some members have touched on the topic of the broader category of Brahmaviharas I want to say a few words. Apologies to anyone if I am appearing as if I am telling them to suck eggs. Metta (Loving-Kindness) is like a foundation of the Brahmaviharas....

Re: Compassion in Theravada

Further to what I have mentioned I want to stress the importance of the method element as well as the truth element in Buddhism. Some Buddhist schools tend to be more shifted towards the truth element of teachings while others tend to be more shifted towards the method element of teachings. Based on...

Re: Compassion in Theravada

I was originally a Theravada Buddhist but later entered the Vajrayana. However I still continue to maintain my Theravada learning and practice like I always done so technically I never really felt like I left Theravada in order to join Vajrayana. I want to start by saying that there is nothing inher...

Re: Living as Buddhists in an age of 'Information Overload'

This is also a commercial niche for self-help books: The Organized Mind: Thinking Straight in the Age of Information Overload Ah! I did buy that book sometime and should read it. But I do agree the self-help section of bookstores tend to prey on people's vulnerabilities and turn that into a money m...

Five steps to stop Islamic terrorism in Europe.

I cant say I agree with all these points but it is interesting that this article was written by an ex-muslim

Re: Muslims, Islam and Europe

Haven't watched the video but I see the still image: On one side it shows a bunch of white faces, and on the other some brown ones, a few of which have terrorist garb on, moving towards the white faces. This is a huge red flag - I infer that whoever made the video has a childishly simplistic unders...

Re: Islamophobia - A nonsense term?

Islamophobia is a false concept It is not uncommon for muslims to be victims of discrimination. Any form of discrimination against an individual based on which religious group one belongs to is wrong. It is so obvious that I didn't even feel like I needed to mention that but these days people are qu...

Re: Living as Buddhists in an age of 'Information Overload'

I made that comment because you said "I prefer not to discuss Tibetan Buddhism in DhammaWheel" and it seemed strange that you would say that when you have quoted Tibetan lamas in your posts, that's all. I think I should have phrased this as "unfortunately the ToS doesnt allow me to explain about Ti...

Re: Right Speech: Virtue Signaling

Why do you use pejorative terms like "social Justice warrior" and what was the point of your you tube link "The Brain of a Social Justice Warrior/Progressive". Were you expressing your right to "free expression"? I was thinking of using the word 'progressive' but once again people won’t be able to ...

Re: Living as Buddhists in an age of 'Information Overload'

Why keep quoting lamas then ? Because the importance of the quote matters as much as the content within that quote and not the identity of the individual within the limits of what is being discussed. I have seen people quote from those who not part of any school of Buddhism yet the value is meant t...
