Re: What experiences happiness in Nibbana?

Well, that's essentially what he is reported to have said himself. :focus:  Mike So someone gets to repeat this as truth ? And, what was the context of him saying that? Lots of assumptions are being made. Sorry, I've no idea what you are objecting to. I was referring to this: There are some ...

Re: Krishnamurty-inspired off-topic posts

( copied from another thread ) I'm still not clear how your approach to insight is substantially different from the Buddhist one. Looking at experience is certainly one way of describing satipatthana practice, for example. I don't have an approach to insight. Perhaps a gave a wrong impression. I do...

Abusive posts and material removed. Contributors, please remember that abusive language disrupts discussion and will not be allowed. To me, when someone says something like this: Buddha, alone of all teachers and gurus, taught total and complete selfless ness', this is abusive. Wake up. :tantrum: W...

Re: enlightenment in theravada

There is simply no answer for some questions like what is enlightenment? The destruction of greed, the destruction of hatred, and the destruction of delusion? Those are the effects. It doesn't really say what enlightenment is. And, the effects are what you have been told happens so it is not really...

Re: The benefits of silence

Since you mention it again, where do we get the idea of how people should be? Isn't this a constructed image based on past experiences and memory, a conditioned response? Isn't this the kind of thing that causes dukkha? When the reality doesn't match the image, there is suffering, disappointment, d...

Re: enlightenment in theravada

cappucino's post can be read in (at least) two different ways. 1) Theravada is unique - that is to say, it is unlike (not identical to) Zen and/or Hinduism. 2) Theravada is unique, whereas Zen and Hinduism are NOT unique. I'm not sure which (if any) of these two cappuccino meant, but if I had to gu...

Re: The benefits of silence

Yes, why not? Nekkhamasitam domanassam is renunciate, as opposed to renunciant, sadness, grief, or distress. Now, you are defending your image as I said earlier. Your position is quite weak and only applicable in an intellectual way. Reality has a way of taking away all of this superficiality that ...

Re: Signs of Kali Yuga

I have the treasure of the true dharma eye, I have nirvāṇa as wondrous citta, I know signless dharmatā, the subtle dharma-gate, which is not standing on written word, which is external to scriptures, which is a special dispensation, which is entrusted to Mahākāśyapa. नस्वातोनापिपरतोनद्वाभ्यांनाप्यह...

Re: enlightenment in theravada

There is one more thing which puzzles me in Theravada Buddhism. Normally, Enlightenment is described in Buddhism the same way as in Hinduism (mokcha) which is just "The Sphere of Neither Perception nor Non- Perception" or some kind of state of mind which is reached via meditation. OK! But...

Re: The benefits of silence

Not always. I've often found that the mis-match between the image and the reality can give rise to positive states such as "renunciate sadness". A lay having renunciate sadness?? Yes, why not? Nekkhamasitam domanassam is renunciate, as opposed to renunciant, sadness, grief, or distress. N...

Re: The benefits of silence

The choices that we make are based on our interests. I've always been interested in certain Buddhist teachings, not particularly Theravada. I wanted to learn a bit more and I have. After all, I live in Theravadaville, in a sense. Yes, thanks - that makes sense. I'm not sure why you are asking me th...

Re: The benefits of silence

You could say that I am looking at experience... Which is pretty much what Buddhist insight practice entails. I'm not trying to be rude or clever when I say most of the people that post here don't practice this way and are not really interested or 'ready' for insight. Insight is radical not therape...
