What are the best books on Samatha? Something like a stage by stage guide would be nice, as well as general instructions and tips.

Inaccurate knowledge can damage the seeker of truth

You can't reach the truth without knowledge but [inaccurate] knowledge can damage the seeker of truth. Be careful what you believe, because what you read or hear cannot always be trusted because you can't make sure it comes from the words of a Fully Enlightened One. For example, how much can you tru...

Re: I disrobed and returned to "normal" life

I must try it. Sounds good. I was making a small joke based on the possible two meanings of your reply "bang on!" First I suspect is the one you intended: "Yes, Sam, you hit the nail on the head as to why I am now leaningh away from monastic life." Second: "Bang" being slang in some places for sexu...

Front row, on the left, is Ajahn Gavesako.
Thank you, Bhante, but that is the Japanese monk. What is the monk's name to the furthest left, standing to the right of Ajahn Gavesako, a bit further behind?

That's a big change for you!...Is it the recent addition of "Tantric Sex" that appears in your signature?
Bang on!
Is that the Tantric Sex mantra? :)
I must try it. Sounds good.

Re: I disrobed and returned to "normal" life

Well done for disrobing. Lay life is better these days than being a monk. I have resolved not to be a monk myself -- at best I may try it for a brief period if I'm not in a relationship. Monasticism is not as good anymore. Hi Stiphan, That's a big change for you! Your ambition was always to ordain....

What are these Ajahn Chah sangha monks' names?

http://dharmata.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/Ajahn-Chah-Sangha.jpg I am wondering what all of these monks' names are. I recognize, of course, Ajahn Chah, Ajahn Sumedho, Ajahn Brahm, and Ajahn Pasanno, but I don't recognize the rest. Especially, I would like to know the name of the monk at the rig...

Re: May dates of the Buddha's birth, enlightenment and passing away

The Buddha was born 566BC, attained Enlightenment 531BC, and passed away in 484BC. Just for your information. (Yes he died at the age of 82. Don't worry about how I know this. It's true.)
