Thankfulness

Hi all, I want to practice more gratitude meditation, just counting my blessings. This is because I feel I don't appreciate the things in life anymore. But can a practice of gratitude go together with a practice of insight meditation or are they opposites of eachother? How does thankfulness stand ag...

when is the end of suffering?

Hi all, When do you think is the end of suffering, With Non-returnership, Aharantship or at Parinibbana? I personally think it is when you realise Non-returnership. Because the roots of sensual desire and aversion are cut off. I can't think of any stress that would arise in a Nonreturners mind. Ther...

Re: affirmation for meditation

[/quote] You used to like doing lots of meditation. Now you don't like it so much. I don't see the problem here; it's like a workaholic realising that they don't like to work so much as they used to. Do you have some sort of assumption or imperative that you should be doing a certain amount? If so, ...

affirmation for meditation

Hi all, I used to meditate three to four hours per day as an average or more. You have workaholics and I was a meditation-holic. It's just I really like doing it. But since a month I had a problem. It felt like my brain couldn't meditate any more. I have been working very hard at meditation for the ...

job search

Hi all,

If applying for a job. Can you exaggerate or portray things more beautiful than it is?

Let's say 75 percent is the thruth and 25 percent is made-up.

Is this ethically wrong and does it goes against the fourth precept of abstaining from being manipulative and telling lies?

Greetings Zachary

Re: Controlling emotions vs controlling thoughts

Hi Alfa, My understanding of the Buddhist teaching is that it isn't about controlling your emotions or thoughts. But just being aware that emotions and thoughts are arising. When you see repeatedly that emotions and thoughts are arising and passing away moment to moment, you get wisdom and you are n...

Losing friendships

Hello, My friends like to go partying, drinking, going to festivals, chasing their dreams of succes, enjoying a whole lot of entertainment. And I'm totally opposite of what they're doing. I spend most of my hours in meditation, read meditation manuals, go to dhamma groups and to retreats. I think me...

talented people and non self

Hi all, People are different. Someone can play the guitar and have a naturaltalent and someone can have many hours of practice and still can't play a decent song. I'm struggling to grasp the concept of nonself. So people can't say that those talents are of themselves. Do I have to accept on blind fa...

Hello Everybody, I'm new on this forum. I'm from the Netherlands. I got a new part-time job since three weeks. It is physical work. And when I'm finished I'm really physically exhausted. My question is: What can I do on dhamma after work when I'm so exhausted? I got a passion for walking meditation....
